Amidsts my other projects I've seen alot of people working on various iterations of beastmen into the 40k landscape, I had originally decided I'd enter this field as a sort of necron worshiping cult however I couldnt resit the urge to go back to roots and stick with a plain renegade guard faction beastmen army. This gives me the chance to round out the force with some awesome forgeworld renegades and to feel suitably evil whenever I take to the field.
Current ideas I'm working on:
Gors as Veterans
Ungors as Infantry
Centigors as Rough Riders (most exicted about this as a decent way to make cool rough riders)
Minotoars lugging massive autocannons as heavy weapons platoons (one minotoar to represent the weapon/2crew)
Anyway as always I've spat out a couple of prototypes in order to see how much I enjoy making the units and am pretty please so far minus a couple of clean up jobs.
Here's where I'm at:
1) Beastman Sarge with Double Power Fists
2) Beastman Flamer

The examples are looking pretty good. The top one looks a little off balanced, seems tilted to the left a bit. Flamer guy looks cool.
I have made a few beastmarines, this is what I did:
Not sure, but you might be able to mix the cadian bodies with the gor sprues to get some armor and more Guard feel.

I really Dig this Idea and might have to give a go myself. The "Sarge" does look a little imbalanced but nice otherwise and the Beastman Flamer looks right proper. I hope to see more of your work as you progress.

Yeah, the Sarge's "Strong Hand" makes him look massively off balanced on one side. Oddly enough the torso/legs are a one piece so he is naturally standing that way but I'll try and build up a base to counter balance him. Got some catachan bitz on order to fill out the squad with lasguns.
Once this squad is finished I'll be merging the renegade torso and guns with ungor lower body to give form to the more rank and file troopers of the legion and then onto my rough riders.
Any ideas for a Codex better than Guard to represent beastmen (not orks, please god not orks)? Automatically Appended Next Post: While I'm at it I've been experimenting with the bolter fittings against the models to see if they fit the more muscular build better (I have a tonne of bolters lying around). Question is would these then remove any chance of fielding them as standard IG vets given that their armament is no longer wysiwig

Current work in progress for the squad, quite happy with how this is turning out but need to invest in a few more bolters to fill it out completely.
Thinking of going for the FW options but not sure of what pattern to use.

Finished the Beastman with dual fists now, waiting on payday to get ahold of a stock of scenic bases. Usually I'd make my own but I'm enjoying the converting/painting of these guys alot more than basing lately so rather than half-ass it I'll pay out for something decent.
Thats one fully completely, four converted and five still in pieces that all need to be done before I take delivery of my ungor on payday. Labour of love though

Pretty cool stuff I might give this a try... I'd go with chaos just so I didn't have to make a bunch even though the standard would be renegade. I have an old WD that has a battle report with with renegade vs Space Wolfs and the renegade look amazing mixed with the guard bodies for simple conversions.

I'm hoping when the rumoured Chaos Renegades codex comes out there are rules for a more elite renegade guard type army that I can use these guys as, for now they are aiming to be run as IG Vets in a renegade kinda way, and will flesh out the rest of the army with more of a mishmash of fallen cadians, FW renegades and halfbreed beastmen/guard. Loving doing these guys at the moment though and find them alot more enjoyable (and quicker) to paint than some of my previous projects.
Thanks for the comment

Just a quick update on where I'm at with my Renegade guard, I'm hoping to make several more intricate conversions so that I can use this army as either a Chaos Warband army ( GK Henchmen list) or as a fully fleged Traitor Guard list ( IG Codex). For this I wanted the mainstay of the army to remain fairly uniform and then I will flesh out some more interesting pieces to use as individualised henchmen at a later date.
Given the sheer number of human based kits I am keeping the Beastmen as a veterans option for my list and using a cross of zombies, maruauders, catachans and cadians to make up the mainstay of the army.
I recently ordered enough bits to hopefully fill out a small infantry platoon (think thats what they're called) and have made up squad one of them for now so I can get an idea of where I am headed. I hadnt counted on the zombies bodies being so out of scale with their arms (body smaller than guard, hands twice the size???) but have been rolling with it in my conversion.
Fluff for the army so far is that the PDF of an outer rim planet were heavily invested in fighting the chaos legions and despite plague after nurgles ridden plague ravaging their numbers the governor would allow now retreat and no support for them. Instead day after day the same bloodied men fought off traitors and pestilence until eventually they were overcome by one of the two. Sadly those that fell did not have the respite of death, instead held in their dying moments by nurgles cruel plagues. The constant pain and the feeling of betrayal by their own people is now all they can think of and all they can feel, simple thoughts escape them as their entire existence is filled with ravaging imperial worlds with the same atrocities that were inflicted upon every disease ridden soldier.
More of the guard is either stolen imperial or looted PDF, giving a variety of iconography from the imperial aquilla to the traitors marks.

Test paintscheme has been used on one of my guard models, it still needs final stage highlighting in some areas but all together I'm happy with both the quality and time it took to complete. If I'm going to do a few dozen of these then they cant all take years.
Without further ado:

Updated WIP of a project that came about due to spare bits and the urge to do a quick character piece to break up squad uniformity.
Prior to the PDF's fall into corruption Ma'tisk and Ma'tuth were brothers by blood and in arms, however as the war of attrition war on the casualties began to pile in, Ma'tuth was struck by a stray blast from enemy fire and rendered unable to fight. When the company made its deal with nurgle to secure victory Ma'tisk sought his own deal to bring his brother back to the fight, bearing his soul to the all father he begged to have his brother by his side in the battle once more, that the two be restored to the fighting prowess they had shared together. Grand Father nurgle is not without a heart, fusing the disease ridden torso of Ma'tuth to his brother and leaving the wounds behind the pair could continue their war in his name.
In game terms the pair count as Gunnery Sergeant Harker.

WIP Cultist for the army, will be counting 10 of these as Veteran squad.

Cheers, they got bumped on the back burner due to some minor issues sourcing them for under £8 a piece. Luckily due to busting my backside at work constantly and having made a few savings across the zombies and cultists I should be good to pick up some of the more costly models in about a month!. Just about to hit 500 points of beast, zombie cultist now.

I've added the arms to the rest of my cultists, and one miscast sprue aside I'm happy with how they've come out. The Renegade arms work surprisingly well with the flagellants bodies.

Cheers, my finished models have been moved across to a completed model thread in the showcase just so I'm not putting everything here and wading through a few dozen of my own images (hence the mispost above). Taking my time with this army, usually I get so eager to have a fieldable force that I buy models I have little to no interest in modelling and burn out quickly.
Just ordered one of the new Amber Wizards from WFB to convert into my primaris psyker to lead the cult, hoping I have better luck with a good cast on this order than some of my old orders.
Currently in progress:
25 zombies (9 finished)
3 HWT
10 Beastmen Mercs (5 finished)
10 Cultists (3 finished)
8 Rough Riders (1 finished :( )
