Hey guys, so I am trying to find nice bits of junk to stick on my Ork vehicles and I was wondering if rubbing PVA glue on torn cardboard might harden it up enough to use as corrugated iron on a model?
Anyone got any experience with this/alternative tips? Thanks.

Starbucks drink sleeves. Put a drop if superglue down each of the cardboard tubes, the other side is flat for easy gluing.

I once found rolls of corrogated cardboard in an art shop - just the waves.
This would be ideal.
Once spray primed they should live up to a bit of damage - any accidental knocks would just like dents!

Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!! |

Paper crimper + Foil food containers, even bends and dents just like metal, have used it on some terrain and looks great, also relatively cheap altho not *free* like cardboard :S

I remember making a little "machine" to make corrugated sheets from paper about 12 years ago.
It was like a window frame with no top and grooves down each side. I cut a bit of paper to size, placed it on the bottom then started adding cut down cocktail sticks from the top, bending the paper over each one as i went. This is frankly a ridiculous way to make corrugated iron lol, but it worked for me in ye olde days.
Ive seen very good results from the wavy part of corrugated cardboard in places, thats probably how id do it now if i needed any.

I'd use superglue - if it's not painted before you stick it on, put the glue on the model not bare the cardboard.

Paper products are really absorbant of paints. I've found that using an unusually large amount of primer prepares the surface best.
Spray-prime the cardboard by itself first. Then glue it on.

Do you still get a good surface with primer? One of the things I like about using pva is that it seals the surface and leaves it smooth. Automatically Appended Next Post: It also means that edges can be cut with a knife and retain a nice sharp edge.

I made a piece of terrain a few years ago out of a piece of corrugated cardboard that had the ripples on one side and a flat back on the other.
I glued it in place and covered the whole thing in a mix of 50/50 water/pva. After it dried I primed and painted it. It is still going strong to this day.

That one is doing a 'fancy' imprint, but you can get them to just do lines.

One tip: Don't refer to it as Cardboard to anyone in the paper industry. You are looking for Corrugated Paper. Cardboard is what they make cereal boxes out of.
(And I heard that from the floor foreman at GP twice a week for the year I worked there)

Yes it can work.
This little shack is foamcard covered in corrugated card (from a scrapbooking pack of card).
It was painted liberally with thinned pva afterwards, then primed black, drybrushed silver and the rust patches applied in blazing orange, scorched brown and the orange foundation paint.

Cardboard plus PVA or superglue (either is fine, but PVA is cheaper) is fine for corrugated metal on models or terrain. For terrain I don't always bother with glue, but it's probably a good idea to strenghten it for use on models.
If you keep an eye open, one sided corrugated cardboard shows up in packing material from time to time. Here's some doors on a model I made of the stuff. Just cardboard, paint and done!
