Yeah, I know it's a slim points limit, but we're starting an escalation league. No lords for this round and you can use any unit champion as your general. In this case, that is the Black Orc boss.

69 Goblin Big Boss w/BSB, light armor, shield, warrior bane sword (simply because it's a magic weapon and I had 5 points left)

Well, Turn 1 went spectacularly poorly.

Played against Vampire Counts who ran a big unit of Ghouls, 3 dogs, and 3 Spirit Host. And a vampire hero with Book-of-whatever and some magic item that gave WS9. I also think he had some bonus to casting.

The Book (that automatically casts a spell from Death or Shadow every turn) ate up most of my dispel dice each turn, allowing him to cast Invocation regularly, keeping the Ghouls and Spirit Host up. My shaman only had the poisoned attacks spell, and except for one turn (where he took out 11 goblins), never got it off.

Black Orcs kept getting march-blocked by the dogs, and eventually stopped trying to defend their flank and charged into the Ghouls' flank (tied up with the goblins), where they were slaughtered in 2 rounds of combat.

I'm thinking next turn (700 points) I'll buff up the Black Orcs to 15 and see about taking a few spider riders.

Note, I don't have my book on me, so be gentle here, but the vamp is 100 pts and the book you mention is 35, bringing the total to 135 and 10 pts over the 25% hero limit (if that's being used). Not sure if this is relevant but is this vamp koser in your little tourney?

I had actually looked at the points after the game, I think he was over both on his lord allowance and total points (comes to about 510 points I think, he had at least 20 ghouls, may have been a few more).

I wasn't sure how to address the issue in a friendly manner on our group's forum.

Could be a lot more then 10 points over if you gave his list accurately. I'm counting almost 600 points.

Vampire with Book of Secrets/Shadows/spellcasting
- Something that gave WS9 (my Black Orcs hit on 5's)
- possibly something for a spellcasting boost.

They may have been playing Warbands for the 500 game, thus allowing Cavalry units to be only 2 big.

Well, first ask if it was a standard 500 points game, or one of the special ones like Warbands.

If not playing a special game, ask if you may see the list real fast to make certain you saw only three Wolves / he went over 25% on the Hero. If the list has three wolves down / a Hero more than 125 points, mention such to them and remind them that - unless the League Runners gave / give them approval - they'll probably need to change it around for later.

I'd post a report about the 700 point game - but it didn't happen due to unavailability.

Really, the whole list is built around the idea of getting an Arachnarok in a 1300 point list. I haven't been doing very well the last few games, so I'm trying to at least see if I can manage a decent showing.

Maybe I should replace one of the goblin units with 2 units of Spider Riders w/bows?
