Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high

So, spring break has rolled around, and I've been itching to play some games, so i set aside a whole day to do what I enjoy. My friend and I met up at the local GW to play as many games as humanly possible and thats just what we did.
I write this report as I listen to some Amon Amarth, because...well Vikings are cool and stuff

No pictures...a GW employee told me I wasn't allowed to? I complied with his request, but I didn't care for it. So I guess I will use my words, and paint you a picture with them
All cliches aside
This is the first of three battles I fought today, at 1500 points. The other was a 2000 point 2v2 match with salamanders, grey knights and chaos, and my necrons (it was totally fluff murder, but it was fun)
The third was a 2v2 match at 3000 points with chaos and ultramarines vs. Orks and my Necrons
Those battles are still to come, now, for part one.

I Brought my 1500 point list as follows
Spoiler:
Overlord w/ Res orb, scythe, weave, phase shifter, MSS
Royal Court
Veiltek
Lord w/ orb, scythe, MSS

Troops
14 Warriors in power blob
5 warriors
5 warriors

Elite
5 deathmarks
5 lychguard

Fast attack
6 scarabs
5 Destroyers (3 heavy)

Heavy
My monolith, now nicknamed Jeffry, because what if not, is a good name for a big hunk of living metal.

He brought several thousand points of chaos running something like this. (He also beat me in the first game we played, so it was time for some payback!

Spoiler:
Demon Prince w/ Wings, Tzeentch mark, breath/winds of chaos

2x10 Khorne Berzerkers
10 CSM in reserve
5 Chaos Terminators (deep striking)
5 Chosen lascannon, plasma cannon, missile launcher
10 Plague Marines

Mission: Capture and control, 3 objectives running down the middle of the table
Spearhead deployment: This actually put one objective in each of our deployment zones at the start of the game, convenient. And there is a plateau in the middle of the map with a ruin providing cover and the final objective

My biggest worries are those terminators deep striking near my objective and pushing me off of it, or not being able to charge his Berzerkers with my melee screen of lychguard, but then again, my plan is if I am losing, to deep strike with VOD to contest his objective if need be

I deploy my monolith as far forward as I can, with my forces being split half and half around a large large tower that was at the front point of my deployment zone lychguard and 5 warriors go left around it, monolith with destroyers, scarabs and the warrior blob ready to go right, and claim the middle. Deathmarks are kept in reserve to respond to terminator deep strikes

He fails to steal initative
He places his chosen right near the middle objective, but they aren't in cover, he was really hoping to steal and park them in cover
Turn 1 NECRONS
MOVEMENT

Monolith moves up, as well as the warriors, who due to a low difficult terrain test, don't make it to the objective as hoped
Destroyers flank wide, lining up his plague marines for a clear shot, scarabs shadow them as a melee tarpit if need be
Lychguard and warriors move right, getting a clear line of sight
5 warriors claim my objective

SHOOTING
Monolith fires its particle whip, Chosen don't get a cover save DIRECT HIT and the monolith wipes out the whole squad just like that. (ouch)

Destroyers fire into the plague marines, killing two
Scarabs run a whole whopping inch
lychguard hold, while the warriors near them, killing one berzerker at long range

ASSAULT
Nothing is in range

Chaos turn one
Movement
Everything moves up, the plague marines actually almost reach the middle objective...and cover...
Demon prince moves towards my lychguard and OL, with 9 'zerkers
Other squad of berzerkers move to claim his objective

SHOOTING
His plague marines run six inches into the middle objective (greaaat)
His 'zerkers are out of charge range he determines....mistake on his part, now I can charge him instead
Not really a shooty army here, but okay.
Bolt pistols shoot my warriors from the berzerkers, killing one who stays dead
His demon prince bolt of changes my cryptek...he dies, never to return....lovely, no more deep strike for me

Assault
N/A

NECRONS TURN TWO
Movement
My lychguard move into assault range of his berzeker unit
My warriors form up for lots of rapid fire into the Plague marines
My scarabs move into charge range of the objective because they can
My destroyers line up the Demon Prince

SHOOTAN"

Warriors fire into the berzekers before my lychguard, killing another 1
Warriors rapid fire into the plague marines....killing 1
Scarabs run so the come at the Plague marines from behind, so warriors can assault if need be
destroyers fire at the prince, and cause two unsaved wounds
My final warrior squad thinks angry thoughts about the enemy, whom they haven't even seen yet
Geoffry fires the particle whip at the demon price, scattering horribly, flux arcs don't damage the plague marines

Assault
Lychguard BARELY make it into assault (this was the result of three measurements, and a GW employee having the final say about it, since it was close MSS does nothing
They go second of course, but weather the lower strength, reduced numbers of attacks. I lose 1 lychguard
The absolutely butcher the berzerkers, killing 6, and winning me combat, they do not break, and make their fearless saves
Adding insult to injury, the lychguard gets back up
Scarabs assault the plague marines, and dont do a thing, take several wounds, but they at least won't be shooting my warrior blob

Chaos turn two
Movement
Demon prince flies over to my warrior blob, threading the needle as far as placement goes (at least he couldn't reach the monolith
None of his reserves come on yet

Shooting
Demon prince uses breath of chaos on my poor warrior blob, killing 7, 5 get up after the phase ends
Everything else is tied up in assault atm, speaking of which

Assault
Demon prince assaults my warrior blob, MSS don't stop him, kills five warriors with his attacks, taking one wound from the lord's warscythe. Two warriors return to the battle, and the blob holds, barely making their morale test
Khorne Berzekers kill a lychguard, who this time stays dead, and doesn't return to battle, they are then cut down for their efforts, I consolidate towards the objective around 15 inches away, held by the plague marines in assault with my scarabs
Scarabs all die of course, his marines shuffle in the objective for lulz

Necrons turn three

So far, this is going really well for me, I think I will send my destroyers to shoot up his other berzerker blob holding his objective, to seal a victory hopefully, so I move them 12 inches towards where he deployed, drawing a clear line of sight for them
Lychguard move towards the middle objective as the plateau becomes cluttered with bits of machines and the blood of marines
Warriors move up with them on the right to offer some shots on the plague marines
Monolith moves in case the termies show up

SHOOTIN
Warriors and monolith pile it on the plague marines, killing two, due to a 3 inch scatter on the particle whip, but eh, its plague marines in cover, what did I expect?
Destroyers fire at his Berzerkers on the objective, killing three who fail their cover saves
Lychguard run towards the plague marines 3 inches
Assault
Warriors cant hurt the prince, nor do the lord's scythe, or MSS, he kills another 3, one returns, and the blob still holds on
Lychgaurd
Where are those termies gonna come in?

Chaos turn three
He needs to make something happen here, or this is gonna be over.

Movement
His terminators come in DUN DUN DUN
They aim to come in right next to the monolith, and break it open like an eggshell (which would likely work due to chainfisting action)
However, they scatter 8 inches...directly INTO MY MONOLITH...and ALL DIE....Go Geoffry!
khorne berzerkers move into better cover
Plague marines move away from the middle objective, to charge my lychguard, and hopefully rob me of whatever advantages I had? But he has defensive grenades...? Oh well.

Shooting
Plague marines bolt pistol my lychguard, causing one unsaved wound on my overlord

Assault
Mind Shackle scarabs claim the demon prince, who hits himself 5 times, and fails 4 saves, he dies. Warriors consolidate an inch towards the middle objective
Plague marines charge my lychguard, killing two, and losing three to power weapons in return. One lychguard returns to the fray
This just keeps getting better

Necrons turn 4
Movement
I decide to try and just normally deep strike my deathmarks, and they come in with minimal scatter to help hold my natural objective, since that is the only way he can win now is by trickery
Warrior blob moves into the ruins, taking them for the cause.
Deathmarks just move into some cover in anticipation of his marine squad coming in.
Destroyers move closer to his objective, lining up more berzerkers
Monolith moves closer to his objective, trying to use the particle whip some more

Shooting
Destroyers and the monolith open up on his berzerker squad, killing all but two.

Assault
Warriors pile into my assault with the plague marines
Lychguard finish off the sons of nurgle, taking no further losses, and consolidate, along with the warriors, presenting a wall of necron bodies between him and the middle objective

Chaos turn 4
His marines come on, move and run
khorne berzerkers actually move out of cover towards my destroyers

Shooting
bolt pistols from the berzekers drop a destroyer. He stays dead
Bolters from the CSM drop all 4 of the remaining warriors in the small unit between them and the objective

Assault
Berzerkers charge and ROUT the destroyers, who fail to cause a wound, they flee almost off the board immediately. The berzerkers consolidate back into cover, to spare themselves from the monolith

Necrons turn 5

Movement
Lychguard move up, deathmarks move up both towards his last healthy squad.
Monolith moves into firing position, making a difficult terrain test.
Warriors spread out in and around the objective
Destroyers rally, and move 12 inches to contest his objective

Shooting
Warriors fire on his CSM
Deathmarks fire on his CSM
between the two, they lose 4 members, not my best rolling, but I guess the timing is okay
Monolith fires all weapons, killing 1 berzerker, not two as I had hoped

Assault
This time I misjudged the charge distance. He'll be charging my lychguard instead of vice-versa. Oh well

Chaos turn 5

Movement.
Rather than moving to contest an objective, his marines take the bait and move to attack my lychguard

Shooting
Bolt pistols ring off dispersion shields (I wanted to try the deflection, just because i'd never used it before)
He hits himself with 3 bolts, but fails to wound himself. (Verdict: Lulzy)

Assault
His csm charge the lychguard as a last hurrah, downing one LG, and putting a wound on my price. Two marines survive the battle, do not break, and make their saves.

Currently objectives are 2-0 Necrons, due to my destroyers contesting
We roll for continuation, and the game ends

Post game: Given that he beat me in my first game I ever played, using nothing but khorne berzerkers and a demon prince, i'm feeling REALLY good right now. Yeah, it would have been much closer had the termies and chosen not both fallen to the might of Geoffry, but thats the dice for you. I felt it was a commanding victory, and I ran a sound strategy to counter his. After this, we grabbed some food, and waited for our two friends to arrive for a second game.

More to come later, and thanks for reading. Hope you enjoyed

Nice bat. rep.

I think this is the first time I've seen a monolith in a bat. rep. since the new codex came out.

Demon Prince shouldn't have been able to hit himself 5 times as MSS only inflicts D3 hits. Does his weapon have some special rule that adds hits or something?

Great report despite no pics(an impressive feat!) but I don't think you can choose to deflect off the shields or not, I was given the impression that only if you take the Invul. save does it defect, and given that you MUST take the best possible save, that meant you can only defect ap3, 2 or 1 shots, was I wrong?
