I'm thinking about adding an Inquisitor with Psyocculum to my Grey Knights. My understanding is that it allows the unit the Inquisitor belongs to to shoot at BS10 if the target is a psyker or the unit contains a psyker. What if I want to shoot at a psyker battle squad riding around in their chimera? Can I still get the BS10? Or am I limited to my normal BS until I pop the transport?

Youre shooting a unit that does not contain a psyker (contain meaning "member of unit" here, by context) so you fire usng the normal BS of the Inq

BRB pg 67:

"Sometimes a unit entry in a Codex will include a transport option, allowing a vehicle to be selected with the unit."

I thought that, for all intents and purposes, a dedicated transport was part of the unit up until that unit disembarks.

Reading the GK Codex entry for the psyocculum "It allows the bearer to track psykers by their psychic emanations, rather than by vision alone... allowing for uncannily accurate firepower against psykers and those enemies foolish enough to shield them."

Even though transports can be selected with a unit, it does not make them the same as the unit they are carrying, except for maybe during dawn of war deployment.

Not even then - they're explicitly a different unit in DoW deployment.

And, if transports were part of the unit, you'd be restricted to moving at the speed of the slowest model, you'd be able to kill transported models, and a host of other problems.

Transports and the occupants are entirely separate units.

And you would have to embark the vehicle inside itself, otherwise no member of the unit can embark.

Vehicles are EXPLICITLY separate units, defined repeatedly within the rulebook.
