Hello all.
I currently play 40k and have decided to play Warmachine as well. I am picking up the Cryx box today. Any advise for a new player?

start small. learn your box and your box caster (deneghra) she is one of the best cryx casters amongst them all. she is squishy, so use her arc nodes well to keep her out of danger. the slayer jack is a cheap (pointed) jack that can bring a lot of pain but will crumble once it starts getting hit.

buy the models that look cool to you, proxy stuff before buying it. there are some time tested staples that always perform well, like bane thralls/knights, bane lord tartarus and a percentage of other models, but make sure you play, win or lose you will learn.

Exactly what he said. The book will let you get ideas of what you like and just keep it small at the beginning and keep playing (win or lose) and you will get there. The faction deck is a nice add because it makes it easier to proxy and try things out.

I'm about in the same boat... new to Cryx (and Warmachine). I'm playing in a Journeyman league and hoping to figure out what works and doesn't work.

You do t need the deck if you get the book. You don't really Need either for that matter, but the book is nice.

I ended up grabbing the Battle Group box, the main rule book, the faction book, the faction deck, and my tokens. I was really surprised with how easily everything went together. Only needed some minor shaving and smoothing. I had everything assembled and primed with base coat in about an hour and a half!

I find her hard to use as she's so fragile compared to all the medium based male casters I normally use. The locals look at me weird everytime I say that though be ause she's Awesome when used well.

Played my first 2 games this weekend, and had a great time! Both were losses for me but very close and I learned a lot.
Had so much fun that I went out and picked up eGaspy and a unit of Blood Witches(which were on sale at a deep discount).

the blood witches will come in handy, especially against hordes.

When I start buying for my Cryx again I'll have to get Blood Witches. They're pretty solid vs everyone.

Deneghra is my favorite caster.

I'd get a unit of mechanithralls and a necrosurgeon to keep them alive.

They make an excellent meat shield and block line of site to keep your caster safer. And they can do massive damage when used with crippling grasp or feat, or scourged to be knocked down, or parasited or some combo of the above!

Having a couple of arc nodes for her is vital i find. What I tend to do is i look at the enemy I'm facing pick out the most dangerous thing to me and then crippling grasp it.

That will stop it charging you and makes it almost useless most of the time. Most people cant get rid of it once its in effect either.

My favorite 35p list will have her, the deathjack, a unit of mechanithralls with a necrosurgon and some bane knights with BLT

@Aduro I would love to, but booked solid, and as I am just starting Warmachine I am quite a bit short of a 50pt list.

As an update, I have added 2 x nightwretches, 1 reaper, eGaspy, Witch Coven, Mortenebra, and Withershadow Combine. Any suggestions as to what's next? Thinking maybe bane thralls.

bane thralls, officer, knights, Denny(both varieties), raiders(since they synergize well and are fast) and maybe either a heavy jack or pistol wraiths.

Is there a place i can go that details the other Warcasters and how they work, play style etc. I am also just now getting in to the game and would like an idea of whats going to be available to me before i pick up Cryx.

Just be warned, Battle Collage is some what notorious for bad information and incorrect information. It's better to think of it as someone's opinions rather than actual facts.

They're good, but MAT 6 is only okay. If you're sick of seeing bane Thralls, build
some sprays into your lists. I think that alone made one of the locals turn the

I specifically switched my LoE to include stiders with UA, Strider deathstalkers, and as many sprays as possible since our local meta is just overrun with cryx players running the same lists aside from maybe a different caster. They all consist of bane thralls, bane knights, Tartarus, Bane Thrall UA, 2 pistol wraiths with maybe 2-3 jacks. The main difference if does the person run denny(either variety), gaspy(either variety) or terminus. It's not so much that they're overwhelming but it does get old. The cryx book has other pretty good stuff and wouldnt be so FFS if people used other stuff like the pirates with Skarre.. I know for a fact out of the 25 people at the tourney tomorrow that there are 10 cryx and 8 have a variant of that thralls debacle. lol

The meta has to shift in order to break people out of playing
certain lists. Character restrictions help with that, as do
scenarios.
