Lets say a Space Marine is sent to serve in the Deathwatch by his chapter and during his service in the Deathwatch his entire chapter is wiped out by some unforeseen event . What would happen to this Space Marine who has no chapter to return to?

More than likely he would be absorbed into a parent chapter or just continue to serve on the deathwatch team until his end of service (death).

There is a special term of service for a marine that has no where to go or doesn't want questions asked...
Though if the chapter had some surviving members left he would rejoin them...

Blackshields show up due to some past shame. Losing your chapter due to whatever isn't quite the same.

Scythes of the Emperor were pretty much wiped out by the tyranids, and the Lamenters are pretty down and out. Their brothers in the deathwatch would most likely stay in the deathwatch until they die or their chapters return to full strength

A Lamenters Dreadnought serving the Desthwatch, and who believes himself the last of his chapter indeed appears in Steve Parker's short story "Exhumed" (in Victories of the Space Marines).

He stays with the Deathwatch. Fighting enemies of the Emperor is just as good here as it is over there.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised. |
