I am wondering what is the difference (if any) between the Army Painter and Galeforce 9 snow flocks. I can't find them in town so I have to order one of them online, and I'd like some idea of what their textures are like before making a purchase.

honestly...I wouldn't spend $5+ dollars on a tiny thing of snow flock... 12 bucks and you get about 5-6 times the amount

I've got and use the Galeforce 9 stuff, but I've heard nothing but good things about the Woodland Scenics stuff in general.

i like to use baking soda and white glue and white paint to make the body of snow drifts or piles, then sprinkle snow flock on the still wet snow for surface texture. It looks great and makes the pricier flock last longer

Baking Soda turns yellow after some time if left exposed to air. Not really that useful.

Woodland Scenics is great, but their snow is rather coarse grain.

Gale Force 9 snow is a slightly finer grain, but rather expensive.

The best stuff, arguably, is Secret Weapon's Crushed Glass. Just don't eat it.

When mixed with white paint it won't turn yellow.

An issue being the crushed glass may be banned in some countries or states so may need to check.

I've also heard matte medium + layer of pva/water (to seal) mixed with bicarb soda can work as flock.

Although like using sprues as rubble, I'd use it as a filler to make the 'pricier stuff last longer'.

Although TBH in Australia most people have never seen snow up close, nor felt it (some might've gone to Mt. Buller but not many) so I guess it wouldn't be noticable as it all looks the same.

Take sand paper to a hunk of white plastic, you get fine grain white snow that doesn't fade, and looks great. Found and tested this one when i was working with resin.

Never heard of that method before, may try it out sometime. Though I'd be careful around the resin while doing it.

Be you could get a similar leavings from a hacksaw on a PVC pipe. Use 1 inch pipe caps and you'll get bases and snow in a single pass.

Is it bad that I just use the GW stuff mixed with PVA, then a sprinkle of it from the pot, then a glaze of gloss??

Don't know if it's bad or not, need to see pictures.

One of the beauty things about modelling: the ends justify the means. So long as you're getting pretty results, the method to get there is pretty much personal taste.
