When I return to the states in a few months I will be starting some wolves...well by that I mean I will be finishing my BA and using them to play Wolves! I am stoked on a mixed mech/foot list for 6th edition. I am thinking of playing two foot grey hunter squads on foot with the following loadout:

10 grey hunters
2x Plasma Guns
Mark of the Wulfen
Wolf Standard
Wolf Guard: Terminator armor/cyclone rocket launcher/ chain fist

For this to work I will need to take 10 Wolf Guards

These squads will back up my three melta grey hunter/wolf guard rhinos. I hope to take advantage of the "new" rapid fire rules, 2xshots from 24 if you stand still or 1 when moving outside of 12 inches. Plasma will be much stronger because of the reduced cover save (5+) and more shots...finally. I plan to fire the CMLs from the wolf guard until I am in range and then set up shop assaulting and dropping plasma death as I see fit. What do you think about this config? I am much more confidentbin rapid fire weapons if the rumors are true and very very excited to take full advantage of the changes.

The core of my army looks like this: excuse the points if they are wrong as I have no access to my codex...boo!

?: 5 WG 2xTermis w/CMLs/CFs, 3xCM/PFs + 5 more..in a pod?

190: 2xP/MotW/WS 10x + CML/CF Wolf Guard
190: 2xP/MotW/WS 10x + Wolf Priest + CML/CF Wolf Guard
178: M/MotW/WS in DB Rhino 8x + Wolf Priest + Wolf Guard w/ CM/PF
195: M/MotW/WS in DB Rhino 9x + Wolf Guard w/ CM/PF
195: M/MotW/WS in DB Rhino 9x + Wolf Guard w/ CM/PF

M: Melta Gun
P: Plasma Gun
MotW: Mark of the Wulfen
WS: Wolf Standard
DB: Dozer Blade
CML: Cyclone Missle Launcher
CF: Chain Fist
PF: Power Fist
CM: Combi Melta

I am currently thinking about these options for the rest of my army at a 1850 points level:
2xVindis
2xLone wolfs w/ CF/SS
Wolf Scouts at 5 w/ M/ Plasma Pistol
5xWolf guard with combis in a drop pod
2xPreds w/ AC/LC sponsons

Obviously I will have to make some choices as all of these options will not fit into the FOC/points level. I am not into Thunder Cav or the epic stationary long fang packs....sorry I am lame. i am looking for a few distractions that can take the focus away from my grey hunters and force my opponent to make choices. i am also a bit worried about 13+ armor because I only have 2xCFs and 6 melta wepons. I think I a, covered for light vehicles due to my saturation of plasma and will probably take living lightening on both of my rune priests. I love horde style marine armies and just need some killy/distraction nits romback up my horde.

I am stoked to get to painting and playong again, and totally wigging out over the prospects of a new edition...hells to the yeah.

I would love some feedback as I have not played in a while nor have I wolves before.

I live boots on the table, always have and am starting to think that 6th will really allow for more foot based armies. Here is what I think will increase their viability:

More reliable movement
More rapid fire weapon shots at 24in
5+ covr saves
Over watch
More transport down sides
To score you must be on foot oustide of your transport

I am toying with a completely foot based list as a result. I am sure with playtesting I might make some changes, but for now the 80+ power armor bodies seem like they could really hold their own. Also I like the idea of plasma and think it could become a lot more competative with the increased number of shots at 24...only time will tell.

1850:
115: Priest, Chooser of the slain + powers - MH/LL
250: 5 WG TDA/CML/CF, 2xCM/PFs, 2xCP/PF
105: Scouts: 5x w/M/PP/MB
105: Scouts: 5x w/M/PP/MB
190: 2xP/MotW/WS - GHs
190: 2xP/MotW/WS - GHs
190: 2xP/MotW/WS - GHs
180: 2xM/MotW/WS -GHs
180: 2xM/MotW/WS -GHs
115: 4xMLs -LFs
115: 4xMLs -LFs
115: 4xMLs -LFs

Each WG attaches to a GH squad. The CML WG goes with on of the Plasma squads.

What do you all think about the foot based list in 6th?
I am also considering a few Plasma Cannons for the long fangs and a drop pod or two...thoughts?

I think building an army for 6th ed is a waste of time. The rumours are just that.

Looking at the list I think it will work but it may not be maxed out for the next edition. Foot sloggers can work in 5th ed as it is so go with it but be ready to have to change it up a little in the summer.

It's not the size of the blade, it's how you use it.
