So on the My Little Pony gallery someone went in and tagged them with 'stupid' and 'gay'.

generally this board is pretty good about not using gay as an insult but I always hate to see it.

So how about autocorrecting it to 'happy'

I many just do that with the tags...

I can't think of a way to tag a picture as gay and mean something positive, so i'm with you on correcting the tag.

Unless someone were to make some sort of "gay pride" model I don't see why you need a tag for "gay."

Tags are open ended you can add a 'green applesause' tag if you want.

So if someone uses then to anonymously insylt other users there's not much I can do except auto change the tag

Perhaps also change the requirements for tagging to make it harder for stuff like this to happen as well? Also is there some way to tell who made what tag? Cause if not it may be something that could be added to punish stuff like this in the future. Either way I'm agreeing with this, correcting tags is probably annoying enough as is without some immature person trying to boost their ego by demeaning the work of others.

I'd love to see peoples' mistakes corrected to 'happy knights', personally.

Should definitely sort the image tags however you decide. Auto-correcting 'gay' on the forum is a 100 colours of wrong though:
It's an insult to anyone that way inclined,
it accepts that people are allowed to use it in a derogatory fashion with minimal consequences,
it stunts intelligent conversation that may cover homosexuality,
it looks like you are hiding it because you think it's wrong which makes the whole of Dakka look homophobic...

I could go on but i wont, i think it should all be pretty obvious.

what lost soul said. gay is a word, not an insult. Sadly people sometimes decide to use it as the latter.....

It's a little bit like, say, "dog". While theres nothing wrong with a dog, people sometimes use it as an insult. But auto correcting every "dog" in the forums would not be a good idea.....

Yeah good points, I already changed the tag but I guess gay has legit uses in the forum.

That being said tossing it around as an insult should bring the hammer down.

Kidding aside, "gay" isn't always a slur.

The English language constantly changes and the definition of "gay" has changed as well. Once it meant "happy". Once it meant "homosexual". Now it is also a general term of disparagement, usually toward things or situations.

Definitions aside, "gay" is not the "N-word" and shouldn't really be treated like it is. Now, anti-whateveryoursexualorientation remarks in general should be modhammered as they currently are and if someone uses "gay" in that context then they should pay the price. Outside that, this bothers me far lest than "failcast" and "finecost" so take that for what it's worth.

Pester Lego into making it so you can't autonomously tag pictures in the gallery, so mods can bring down the hammer on people who insult tag others work.

That sounds like some very labour heavy coding for very little end effect. However if it became a problem it should be considered.
