Hey guys,

I have been playing Imperial Guard for a bit, but only recently started trying out more of the upgrade characters, like Bastonne or Chenkov. Recently I looked into including Al'Rahem and a couple Infantry Squads all mounted in Chimeras to Outflank, because my normal list is predominantly Mech Vets anyway. My question is:

May Al'Rahem and those Infantry Squads outflank within their Chimeras?

The above poster is exactly correct. Something else that might be useful to know, in the latest Imperial Guard FAQ it states that:

"When making a reserve or outflanking roll, roll once for the whole Infantry Platoon. Any units in reserve that are embarked upon a non-dedicated transport are instead rolled for separately.”

So the entire Platoon AND it's Chimeras all come on at the same time.

The Imperial Guard dies, it does not surrender.

Does this mean I also roll once to determine which side the whole thing comes in on, or do I roll for table-edge individually?

If they all come in at once, all come in on the same table edge, and all can ride Chimeras, I think I finally found a good reason to use Al'Rahem (and maybe Chenkov too!).

You roll once for table edge, from memory, as well - have a look on the FAQ

Yes you roll once for Al's platoon complete (Including the DTs). Enjoy your new tactic.

I do believe that the chimeras only get outflank if the infantry platoon squad is embarked in them. So as long as you are embarked, the chimera can outflank.

The Chimera are part of the platoon, so must outflank regardless of who is loaded up

Let's not start this again. 20+ pages of arguing maybe isn't enough for you, but it really tests the patience of all others.

@OP If a platoon unit is embarked in the chimeras you are legal 100%. If the unit is not embarked there is a problem. Some say the chimeras do count as part of the platoon, some say they don't. Check with the opponent/TO before doing it...

I[m not starting anything but the overwhelmingly convinced majority who read and understand rules in one way

You think differently, that doesnt mean it is unclear.

There is another big online community that is overwhelmingly convinced of the opposite of what you propose. Dakka ain't the whole gaming world. And this wasn't even in the OP's question. So this is already offtopic...

Thank you for the clarification, gentlemen. Initially I searched the topic in YMDC but only found long convoluted arguments that I felt drew too far from the point (I was looking for) after the first few pages. I have no intention of driving empty Chimeras onto the board, so as long as I avoid that grey area this seems like it could be fun to try. If it is both effective and fun I'll be trying it in a tournament, thus the need for page references. Thanks again for all your help!

Copper - still irrelevant, as actual players (for example the UK tournament goers gaming community) is convinced that something bought as a member of a platoon is a member of the platoon. Odd that.

It isnt off topic to say the permutations of what is allowed to be helpful to a poster, especially as they may not have thought of it at the time but will do - its called anticipation. It is laughable to claim that something directly related to the question (can all members of a platoon come on the same side with Outflank) is offtopic, truly laughable - but if you truly believe its off topic the mod alert button is there for a reason. O

So you speak on behalf of all the UK gaming community?! You should put that on your profile...

Sigh. I did not say that, I just know a large proportion of them in actual real life - not just an "online" community of armchair generals, but people who go out and play.

Your CONTINUED strawman arguments are just pathetic nonsense

So we should just take your word for how the UK gaming community handles this issue. Or maybe not...

Hey gentlemen, the reason I had to make my own thread in YMDC is because fellows like yourselves have battered the heck out of every other thread on the topic. After reviewing those threads for relevant information it became clear that you are somewhat of an instigator, copper.talos, and you are too easily baited, nosferatu1001, though you always offer sound advice and rules litigation. I respect that both of you have strong opinions on the subject orbiting this one, but I just ask that you refrain from extending this debate outside of the private message system.

Personally i dont care less what YOU believe, as your opinion is irrelevant to the matter at hand.

I'm stating what I know to be true; if you wish to ignore this information, feel free.
