So.. Grey knight strike squad rolls 12 or 1 aka perils of the warp... Justicar dies. The squad can still cast hammerhand..because the entire squad is considered psykers correct? ((And i'm just making sure i am not making any mistakes))

Yes,
If they rolled 2, the hammerhand works this turn and Justicar dies. If 12, the hammerhand doesn't work this turn and Justicar dies.
Next player turn, they can still cast hammerhand, as the whole squad is the psyker. If they roll perils again, the suffering model is randomized.

Not forgetting of course he suffers one wound if he fails an invulnerable save and he has two wounds, death though likely is not certain.

Dunno which codex you're reading but in mine the GKSS Justicar only has 1 wound.

“Do not ask me to approach the battle meekly, to creep through the shadows, or to quietly slip on my foes in the dark. I am Rogal Dorn, Imperial Fist, Space Marine, Emperor’s Champion. Let my enemies cower at my advance and tremble at the sight of me.”

Bugger me, you're right, I 've been reading the wrong line in my Army Builder ! He has 2 ATTACKS not wounds.

Thanks for that.

The only way a GKSS is getting an invuln against Perils is if the unit is on combat and has a warding stave. You can take the Stave against perils that happens when the unit is in combat and not just against CC wounds.

If you arn't engaged its useless though.

I'd not be sure if a Staff could deflect a Perils even in CC, but whatever the case, PoW is a lot more dangerous than I had thought.

The Stave works against wounds suffed in combat.

This is different from wounds suffered during an assault.

The latter refers specifically to wounds from attacks done in combat. the former refers to wounds taken when the model is engaged.

GK FAQ is your friend, it confirms that the staff can be used against al wounds while in CC, unlike the Wytches dodge

hey that is very handy thanks for the steer.

Now I'm thinking the Staff should be in the hands of the Justicar.

That staff is mighty expensive though. When just starting this new version of Gk i tried the staves..my own feeling is they are not worth the points (Again..thats just me)

Its not just handy for Perils.

They are great for punking that odd powerfist/power weapon wound and keeping your dudes alive.

Power Fists/Power Weapons on enemy sergeants rarely inflict more then one wound per round of combat, but its a garunteed death normally. With the Stave you can negate it on a 2+ and save an expensive GK from getting punked.

an Ork Nob with a PK has 2 attacks. Hits on 4s and wounds on 2s. One wound on average. The Warding Stave practically eliminates it.

either way, its still only going to give less then 1.5 wounds per round which can be bounced off the Warding Stave.
