Since there has been a lot of history threads floating around the off-topic section lately I decided to make a ww2 specific quiz. As i'm no historian It's just a bit of fun

1. When did ww2 start?

2. Why did the americans join the war?

3. what was the nazi's full name?

4. where is pearl harbour?

5. When did the war in europe end?


For 2 internetz can anyone answer these correctly without cheating.

1. What was the Battle of Westerplatte? who fought in it? and how many of them were there? how long did it last?

2. where you forced to watch schindler's list in school?

4/5. I didn't get the Nazi party's full name, but then I also don't speak German

I didn't get the specific dates either, but I did get the year correctly - so you could maybe knock half a point off of each there.

1945 officially, but we all know the Hitler didn’t get killed until 1953.

4/5. No, I didn't know the German name for the Nazi party, but I did know the full translation: "National Socialist German Workers' Party"

And, I wasn't forced to watch Schindler's List in school (but it was encouraged. So, I can't say where it happened.

Phew, I was worried there. I remember having to explain who was fighting who in the Pacific War to my friend's sister, who was in college.

You did get a few slightly wrong, though.

1) The invasion of Poland by Germany happened on Sept 1, 1939. But, England and France didn't get involved until Sept 3 (when the war turned more global). And, the Japanese and Chinese had already been at war for 2 years (starting July 7, 1937).

2) It's spelled Pearl Harbor. It's a proper name, which means it isn't subject to differences in American vs English spelling.

4) The more proper spelling is Hawai'i.

5) The UK didn't end the state of war with Germany until July 9, 1951, the US didn't end it until Oct 19, 1951, and the Soviet Union didn't end it until 1955. There's plenty of other events that could be called the end of the war, but April 30 is the day Hitler committed suicide and the war wasn't over yet.

There is no true answer to when the war began and when it ended as it's different depending on who you ask.

The Brits are much more annoyed at this business. Post-war the Japanese were much more unpopular than the Germans, who by-and-large treated British prisoners fairly decently.

Wake up, Frazzled! CuddlySquig was actually working for the US Government! Roosevelt wanted him to attack Pearl Harbor so we would have an excuse to go to war with the Axis, but he didn't actually want him to help the Japanese win!

Roosevelt did this because he was working with the Swiss banks to steal Nazi gold reserves, and the Swiss were worried about Germany winning and coming back to demand their gold. So, they would only agree to give Roosevelt their gold if he killed Hitler, which he did in 1943, but the Nazis used a disguised V2 to make it look as if he was still alive.
