Is there really any point in the UK staying in Afganistan? The Taliban will only take over once the troops have left anyway...seems like this landlocked Asian country really isn't worth fighting over. That's how I see it, anyway.
What does dakka think? What do Americans think about it? Vast majority of NATO forces are American, as are the losses.

It has nothing to do with pride so much as people deciding that it's not worth it continued loss of lives of US soldiers.

Are you insane? How else does an under powered country fight back?
You really think they can fight against the Nukes and the Fuill military in a glorious all out battle?
The truth is, they cant.
Does that mean they should let the stronger country do w/e they want?
Or any means possible to retaliate?
They are also humans for gods sake, get that into your head.

That is disgusting. Terrorists are evil and vile and deserve absolutely no compassion sent towards them. An underpowered country doesn't deserve any right to fight back if its in the wrong, saying otherwise is insane and allows evil to triumph.
Humans? Humans don't support Terrorism. Humans don't support people who behead soldiers who fight to improve people's lives. Humans don't hide among their own people and use them as meatshields.

What made them wrong in the first place to be attacked by USA

WTF DO YOU THINK POLITICIANS ARE. How many of your own soldiers are sent to their death just to save some investment in oil fields?
They are already meatshields and pawns in the very start.

Its interesting how I compare politician to terrorist? Sure.
I find politicians that sacrifice their own soldiers for personal gain to be every bit WORSE than terrorists.
They get to sit back without staining their hands, in all safety, and always have a clean slate despite the evil they do.
This isnt about soldiers, soldiers are innocent sheeps that abide what they are told to do. They are valiant, they are noble to give their lives,
but by no way does that mean their "boss" share the same noble cause.
If you cant sort that out, there is nothing for us to talk about.

I don't care how poor they are nor do I give a damn about what religion they are. That isn't the fault of Western nations. Its no excuse to start blowing civilian people up for no reason and thats what invites wars. If they want to start terrorising civilians? fine, but let it be on their head because Western countries won't stand for that.

You do realize that Afghanistan isn't really known for their oil fields, right?
As for the meat shields and pawns drivel, what ever.
As to the OP, as much as I would like to say yes, the answer is probably not. There are a few advantages to keeping your troopers there but in the end they may not tip the scale to make it worth while. The advantages as I see it:
- While there they are killing some folks that need killing and helping some that need helping.
- Your SOF forces are getting some damned good experience (actually all your troops there are) which does help out your nation.
- Lastly, it gives you a bargaining chip when you need something from the US.

It was a comparison. A comparison to show you that just because the soldiers are noble,
doesnt mean the people that sent them there share the same noble cause .
But they sure did come up with nice excuses!

You mean when Soviet Russia invaded Afghanistan and the US aided and supplied foreign fighters, ultimately leading to the withdrawal of USSR forces and the liberation of Afghanistan? You mean then?
No it didn't. Osama bin Laden being involved with the Mujihadeen was a by-product of the Russian war in Afghanistan, but it was never inevitable that he would mastermind a bunch of guys flying planes into tower blocks. That's just a post hoc fallacy, because not every Mujahid did that. Beneath all the pseudo-philosophical pontificating you do, you actually have a very naive and child-like world view. Automatically Appended Next Post: @Samus - Actually you are wrong. Afghanistan has been a favoured destination for travellers as recently as the '60s and '70s, and served a similar function as somewhere like Goa, or Bali - it was popular with hippie backpackers. It hasn't always been a cesspool - it used to be comparatively liberal.

I hate to be the one to go Godwyn, but because you insist on stating stuff like the above I'll offer this:
Questions to Research:
1. What does dehumanization mean?
2. What does dehumanization do to a person? What did it do to the Jews?
3. Where does dehumanization occur in our world today?
4. How did the Nazis use dehumanization? What techniques were considered dehumanization?
