If a character joins a unit that has a ward save as a base ability(not from a spell) like Phoenix Guard, does the character also gain the ward save?

I know that Psychology rules transfer like Stubborn and what not, but am unsure on this one.

If the unit hs an item that gives a ward save to the unit, then attached characters would benefit

That is what I figured, I just wasn't sure. And it would have made PG way broken as a character bunker.

If the unit just has a save like phoenix guard the character wouldn't benefit but if a item granted the unit a ward save everyone in the unit would benefit.
