If anyone has completed the ME3 story or seen videos could I just ask

Spoiler:
How do you keep your shep alive? I know that control reaper and synthesize kills shephard automatically but I actually chose to destroy the reapers (which in vids I've seen shows him taking a gasp of air under some rubble). Yet I can't remember that happening for my playthrough even though I had 6000 mil stuff and 3000 EMS or the full green bar. Does that always happen and I simply missed it, or do I need to do something else to have shep live?

ps Why is there no epilogue?

Don't mean to antagonize, but we do have two threads about it already...

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

From what I understand, you need to have over 5000 Effective Military Strength, be on the second playthrough (New Game Plus) and take the Renegade option. Only then can Shepard maybe live.

Note that that's effective military strength - not total. It's entirely possible to get that number using only War Assets, but it's much easier if you do play Multiplayer a bit.

Spoiler:
Its only renegade because the Geth get killed in fairness. I think canon wise it will be the one where Shephard takes control of the reapers and takes them away to dark space. All the others alter the verse far too much. Mass relays can be rebuilt as was shown by the Protheans on Ilos but you can't really kill off the Geth or make everyone a machine person. Its also judging by the copious amount of blue (ironically) the paragon ending and bioware normally goes for paragon ending.
