Here is a rough mock up of my idea for Obliterator counts as. Couple reasons, I dislike the current Obliterator models (Although the old ones are hilariously bad and I would use them if I had them) I think the traitor guard working with Chaos should be more represented, and I just want some unique stuff in my army.
The idea being I will give each team one of Lascannon, Multi-Melta and Plasma Cannon. Two men with either plasma gun, melta gun, or flamers. And one guy with a powerfist.
I have some Pig Iron heads, and a pack of the FW Renegade militia torsos that I am going to sprinkle in.
Would you accept this as an Obliterator?
Any thoughts on what would be easiest to convert to a tripod mounted Multi-Melta or Plasma Cannon?

Awesome idea, but isn't the base size incorrect? I thought Oblits used 40mm bases instead of 60mm.
If the basing issue isn't a problem for you and your group then by all means go forward with the idea. Anything that adds some diversity to an army is welcome and you have a very fun idea here which definitely changes things up.

Yes, I believe you are correct on the base sizes. I will probably take a few terminators and glue a bunch of guns to them to use as obliterators if anyone wants to get strict.

I'd be fine with the base thing, i think that as long its bigger and not smaller than the proper one, as you cant use it to get advantages in terms of gaming with it.

Make something to represent the Relentless USR and the 2+ save (add wheels to the heavy weapons, or something else).
I really liked the ideia... Automatically Appended Next Post: DarkTraveler777 wrote:Awesome idea, but isn't the base size incorrect? I thought Oblits used 40mm bases instead of 60mm.

Base size is only an advantage when you are getting out of an assault transport (or open toped) or when using "base contact" assault effects... I dont think anyone will complain about them here.

are you going to add mutations to your obits counts as for instance model them as becomming part of their weapons (or vice versa) for instance the plasma gun could be moddeled as being the forarm of one of the guard with cables and such twisting around its arm to a backpack? the lascannon gunner could be grown onto/into the wheeled base of the gun? I like your idea though as there really isn't a nice looking obits model at the moment.

I really liked the ideia...
Oh yea, forgot to mention I was going to try and fit a sand bag...wall? not the word I am looking for, but a stack of sand bags in front of the models somehow. To represent their save.
As far as mutations, not sure. I am pretty new to this, but it is something I could try.
Anyone have anything for the Plasma Cannon/Multi Melta? I have the Devastator bits, but that looks like it is going to be harder to use than I thought. I also got a Multi-Melta from either a Land Raider or Land Speeder, I forget which, but that looks like it will work with a bit of work.
Thanks for the input already!

I would try to scavenge the man portable versions of those weapons for instance most weapons such as plasma cannon have been included in a well known gang violence sci fi game which is actually still availible form GW as a PDF download... Maybe they can still cast up the parts or you could try finding them through Ebay? had a look through GW site they only sell the main gangs now no extra heavy models... but you might be able to pick up something from ebay, maybe some kind space marine player didn't want or need a plasma cannon in his devistator squad? I would steer away from the vehicle versions purley to avoid complicated conversion work as you stated your just getting started, the vehicle versions are often just the barrel and the rest of the gun is safe inside the vehicle hidden by all that armour...... Ohhh just re-read your post, I'd try to use the devestator bits.... Ohhh I found one on ebay but Dammmm it is expensive http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Necromunda-Van-Saar-Gang-Heavy-Plasma-Cannon-UnPainted-/170767478150?pt=UK_Toys_Wargames_RL&hash=item27c288ed86 this one is cheaper http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Necromunda-Van-Saar-Gang-Heavy-Plasma-Cannon-UnPainted-/170767478150?pt=UK_Toys_Wargames_RL&hash=item27c288ed86

I don't dislike the 'multiple dudes on one base' idea, and agree with others that the too-large base is unlikely to get many complaints as it's more to your disadvantage than advantage.
Using the standard tripod style IG weapons seems a little awkward. Personally I'd go for the 'amputate his arm and replace it with a heavy weapon' look. For the heavier weapons, maybe even have a second dude helping support the weight of the barrel? A base crammed full of dudes would also help with the armour save - some are acting as 'ablative armour' for the others

I dunno, along with the base size how will you represent:
the 2+/5++ save
the ability to deep strike

I would at least have the guns instead of arms or other bodyparts to represent the Obliterator virus, afterall that is the key part of an obliterator in my eyes, and i tihnk if the virus was clealy visable on the troops, then there would be less of a need to represent the other abilities such as the save and deep striking on the models.

The armour save could also be represented by at least one trooper carrying a force field generator backpack.

Well, it's the wrong base size, and wrong for line of sight, and wrong for the armor save and invulnerable save, and wrong for the toughness and physical stats, and wrong for the strength and close combat ability.
As both an IG and a Chaos player, I love the idea of using traitor guardsmen. This idea however just has way way way too many holes in it for me to consider it a fitting counts as.

Thanks for being honest, seems a mixed bag on the response. I might end up just scrapping the idea from a playing standpoint and put some extra work into making it a really neat model/little diorama.
