Hi all

I am considering buying Cutlass! from Black Scorpion Miniatures:
http://www.blackscorpionminiatures.com/product_info.php?cPath=27&products_id=193

As they got free shipping for orders over 50£ I am also considering buying some of their pirates:
http://www.blackscorpionminiatures.com/index.php?cPath=25
http://www.blackscorpionminiatures.com/index.php?cPath=27

Are there anyone here, who has some ideas for at good "complete game" purchase like the box sets of other companies. That is, 2 crews and the book. How many models do I need per side for at standard campaign game? I was thinking a captain and 2 packs of pirates per side giving about 9 models a side.

I was also thinking to go with two different crews for two different styles both in game and in looks. Anyone knows how big a difference there is between the races?

EDIT: I just bought the book, so that I can take a look at the races and crews myself. If anyone has ideas for builds and more I still would like to hear them.

EDIT: Disclaimer: I am in no way affiliated to Black Scorpion. It is my own passion for fantasy, pirates and miniature wargaming, that is driving this shamelessly linking to Black Scorpion's home page

I... really like that cover art.

I haven't heard of this game before! Thanks for bringing it up! As such I obviously haven't played before, but I'm definitely going to take a look at it.

Yeah, it's a great cover. If pirate girls are your thing, Black Scorpion got some of miniature pirate girls too:

I probably should ad a disclaimer at the original post to say, that I do not have anything to do with Black Scorpion, with me shamelessly linking to them all the time

Yeah, I definitely raised an eyebrow at first.

As a painter though, these models look like a lot of fun.

The game plays really well, the campaign rules are what makes it though.

Yeah, the models are one of the big pull in for me. There is a lot of character in them. Like the Napoleon-like goblin in the middle here:
http://www.blackscorpionminiatures.com/product_info.php?cPath=25&products_id=131
Or the orc admiral here:

Guess I more or less have found one of the two sides, that I am planning to get. When in doubt, buy the lot you like the look of, right?

Care to elaborate on that? I am waiting for the book, and got the pirate skirmish shakes

Yup, the figures are a peach to paint linky to my Orcs http://s494.photobucket.com/albums/rr309/KeptinJack/Cutlass/ and the book is well worth getting. Still haven't played a game yet due to RL problems getting in the way of the gaming group. Having read through the book, and looked at the systems of play it does seem well worth the wait.

Also there are any number of lase cut ships becoming available http://www.tabletopgamingnews.com/2012/03/12/56222/ although you don't need them. I'm going to get one for my lot, whether I end up using them or not!

I really like your orc admiral. Good bold colours, those red and yellow. I was also thinking of an redcoat inspired orc and goblin gang. Think the The Patriot, and you're nok far off

Funny thing, the ships really is not my draw to the game. It is more a discovery of far and away islands and exploring deep jungles.

Anyhow, I just got a mail saying the book has been shipped, so in a day or three I should be with my nose deep in the book
