Hey - has anyone had success stories with burnaz in a trukk as a bit of a kamikaze troop killer? How many did you use? How did you do it? Did they assault? Was it worth the points? What else did you run with it? Am I missing a dodgy rule?

cheers!

Trucks are extremely easy to destroy, mix that with armor save of 6+, its one juicy target.

I think burnaz + BW is a better plan.

This is definitely a major issue. Don't expect them to survive past turn 2 unless you've got a really specific plan going on.

I usually just use trukks to launch a unit of nobz/ghazzy up the table. By turn 2 (or turn 1, depending on the deployment rules and enemy placement), it's done all the work it'll do for the entire game and might as well be destroyed at that point.

If you're running burnas in it, they're not nearly as hardy as nobz and won't be able to survive once they get out or the trukk is popped. You may want to consider a battlewagon instead.

That said, no matter what, it will be a priority target. Burnas have an insane amount of concentrated killing power and this almost always makes them a priority target. Their frailty doesn't help things much either. Expect them to get crushed very often with little to no payoff. But when they don't get destroyed before they can get in range, they can absolutely wreck things.

I feel that if you're going to run burnas, you're going to need other sources of serious threats for your enemies. You can never count on burnas to survive, but at the very least, you can hope that they work as a good enough diversion for your other forces to set up.

Burnas honestly serve best as a distraction. They collect a lot of shots. If you want to keep them in a trukk, keep them out of sight behind the BattleWagon and pray for cover.

Skip the trukk and toss them in a Battlewagon. The Careen result negates any advantage you would otherwise gain by pushing the trukk forward, and its open topped 10 armor is worthless, especially in a meta focused on cracking AV11 and AV12 closed top transports.

If you threw them in your Battlewagon wave you could presumably put them within KFF range and give them an AV-14 transport with a 4+ cover save to get them to their target much more safely than a trukk.

Umm, trukks are dedicated transports, so the only way to put burna boyz in one is leaving a 10 man kill point out in the open.
If you are going for a competitive army, then the kff battlewagon is the best way, especially if the kff comes from another battlewagon full of nobz nearby .
If you are going for fun, the looted wagon is a cheap and easy way of moving the burnas. Sure there's a 1 in 6 chance of gunning it forward, but that just makes it all the more interesting right? And AV 11 means no sneaky bolter kills. This is the way I usually go, with 11 (10 and a mek) sitting inside. It's usually enough to have some burny fun, and is only a little over 200 for the burnas and the wagon.

Success stories:
-Getting 80 hits on a squad of dire avengers and a farseer against someone who didn't consolidate far enough out of combat.
-Flaming a squad of sangiunary guard about to jump onto my objective, then getting the wagon blown out from under them, and so assaulting a squad of honor guard with FNP with 30 power weapon attacks (made about triple their points back here).
-Burning up two units of dark eldar, clearing my oponent's objective.

For me they usually make themselves worth their points, if not through killing things then at least through the awesome feeling of so many flamer templates. Of course, you have to pick their battles: charging paladins is not such a good idea for example. And fragile ork vehicles will always get blown up by people with decent firepower. The trick is to have something scarier neaby to distract all those lascannons.

My cousin always runs a BW with burnaz and a KFF either in the BW or near it in another. The KFF is almost mandatory because as was mentioned before, the burnaz will be a priority target.

Skip trukks. You can't take burna boyz in trukks anyways. They have to borrow another units ride, which means you can't start them in a trukk. Which means you can't turbo boost them. Which means you have 3 units that will not be working very well. The boyz squad which is now walking. The burna boyz that have to stand in the open waiting to get in. And the trukk that can't turbo boost first turn and will be the target number 1 for you enemies first shooting phase.

Yeah, for some reason GW thought that Burnaz and Tankbustas shouldn't have trukks. Couldn't care less for any other units though, except maybe flash gits.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

It's a shame too, since it'd work so well with both units, but especially burnas.

Pack 5-7 burnas in a truck and throw it up the table. 110-140 throwaway points that can absolutely destroy an entire unit in one shooting phase.

They'd make a great suicide unit that way, but since you have to spend a turn loading them up in the trukk, it's really not too viable (and trust me, I've tried it). You wouldn't think that one turn could mean so much, especially if you kept the trukk in cover and out of enemy LoS, but it really does, since it gives the enemy time to setup to mitigate your other threats before the burnas can even become relevant. What's more, you're spending at least another 60 points just to get the trukk for the burnaz, defeating the entire point of a suicide unit.
