I have just flicked through the Hasslefree Miniatures website, and while many of the models were pretty good, I couldn't help but notice how many of them were rather gratuitous nude female models. Now I'm not opposed to nude females in wargaming per se, for example I do like Juan Diaz's Daemonettes, but some of these were ludicrous. There were countless "harem" models and the Artemis miniature had a SCULPTED VULVA. What on Earth is going on with this company?

Hasslefree makes some decent non-nude models.

If it takes the nude models to keep the company healthy and making money, that only benefits me. Those nude models aren't hurting anyone.

Same reason why there are loads of Space Marine kits in comparison to the others.

It also allows you (the purchaser) a decent armature in which to sculpt kit upon. Often you will see those individuals with great GS skills sculpting all sorts of lovelyness, however there are also those that can sculpt some gear, but not the muculature of a human. This allows those with the gear sculpting skills to present soemthing that they create, and customise while having a convienent short cut to the process. I have used Bronze Age Miniatures body forms for this myself, most of them are sculpted in heroic like poses, so it is convenient. As for use, of the hasslefree minis, think of your dark eldar slaves, and as was posted earlier, cheesecake sells.

Fair point. I can appreciate it from an armature point of view (in which case you wouldn't actually need nips or other such detail) but considering that some of the nude models are either badly sculpted (manacled harem girl for example) or...overly detailed (Artemis ladyparts, ahem)...I dunno. Maybe I'm a bit silly. It wouldn't be the first time.

Hasslefree are a great company (who else sends you a sweet with your order?) with some fantastic sculpts, a small portion of which happen to be naked and female. Is very easy to not buy those models if you don't like them

Sculpting nudes has been around since before the golden age of Greece. So has its detractors. If the sculptors' passion is to sculpt nudes then more power to them. It's not like that's all they do...

One interesting thing to note is that while Kev White (Hasslefree owner/sculptor) does sculpt alot of nudes, many of his sculpts are of women with larger and curvier body types.

While I do get a bit tired of the objectification of women and unrealistic body types that this hobby so often promotes, I think Mr. White deserves a bit of credit for not sculpting all his female miniatures as adolescent anorexics with breast augmentation.

Seriously. That's all it boils down to. Some people paint minis as a sort of art form. Nothing wrong with it.

As for the rest of us: if you want to GS/kit out an army of naked women... well, dammit, that's your prerogative.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of them either. Mostly it's just the cartoonish and unrealistic body type, but its standard for the industy. It's hard to find female combat figures without the waist and breasts showing, which is just unrealistic, as if you would ever be in a combat situation like that. But Demonettes have no need for clothes! I'm sure GW would be doing the same thing if they weren't more concerned about young adolescent boys (their money, that is). You'd think that if the company was supported by pervs, they hadn't discovered the internet yet.

I don't perticularly want to buy any of those models. I also dont see a problem with producing them. They apperently sell, so there are people out there that want them. It is up to you whether you buy them or not. Why make a big stink about it? As far as I know they don't advertise to kids.

I used females for objectives for my IG. Cause if your a poor grunt in a huge army, what is honestly worth fighting for the Emperor or saving some women.

The reason is because when Hasslefree started out they didn't have a lot of money for supplies, so they decided to save on the amount of Green Stuff needed for clothing on their sculpts.

On topic, they really do have realistic female body sculpts.

Having looked over their online catalog, all their sculpts are fantastic, not just the females

Why do you buy the models that you do? I'll field a guess and suggest that you like the aesthetic of your models. Well, through history the most appreciated aesthetic has and always will be pretty women. That's just how it is. So, with that understanding, if you want to sell your models in a capitalist marketplace, you will want to appeal to the most popular demand. Which, in this case, would be pretty women.

As to the sculpted vulva, well, I'll answer this question in two different ways because I cannot be certain of your implication.

1. If your implication was that such a level of detail is quite incredible, then I will say that I agree with you, and this company obviously puts a lot of effort into fine detail.
2. If your implication was that such a detail was unecessary and gratuitious, then I must ask you another question: would you consider it so ludicrous if GW produced a Space Marine that a Cupid's bow sculpted below its nose, or a cleft chin?
