Peter Molyneux left them! Yey, now we can finally get games that do live up to the claims!

The next Fable (the Journey) is exclusive to the Kinect so I won't be playing it anyway.

I hope Mr. Molyneux's absence from Fable IV, if it's ever developed, reflects well on the game. I tend to think it will.

I'm not sure it's entirely Peter's fault; Fable, Black and White..... Both of them were pretty bland games, not just because peter promised things he couldn't deliver (which didn't help at all, I know).

When you take a game (Fable), and have it entirely possible to play as a Mage, a Warrior, or a Archer, and both sequels force you to play as a mix of at least two, somethings not right.

I've never feared Death or Dying. I've only feared never Trying.

Yeah, but mister Peter was at the head of all those design decisions, so in the end, he is to blame for most of it,.

That said, he's a spanker and I hope he steps out of the industry.

First fable was awesome. Third was was pretty fun, there was a charm to it, it was very well made. But the combat was terrible.
I think people much preferred walking around as an angel/devil than they do interacting with people...yawn.

This is a great day for Lionhead Studios.

No more promising game content before consulting the developers, who then say that it can't be done.

No more making the games out to be hugely awesome by simply taking one part of it and exaggerating it almost to the point of lying about what can be done.

I'm unsure how Fable will do, or if 1-3 and The Journey (which sounds terrible, and is only for Kinect anyway) have forever destroyed the franchise, but I hope that any other games will be up to scratch and actually deliver, instead of promising to deliver something and delivering something sort of like it.

Games were being over hyped long before Peter came along. They'll keep getting over hyped now that he's gone. That is all

I think it's more that Molyneux personally promised things that his games could do, and they couldn't in the end. Honestly, though, I'm with you. Games will be overhyped and overadvertised in the future, just as they have for years and years. Heck, look at Mass Effect 3 - the whole Arrival DLC leading up to Mass Effect 3, a live-action trailer of the invasion of Earth, the revelation of a Prothean squadmate, and of course just the story in general of Shepard fighting off the Reaper invasion. And the gameplay was kinda buggy, sorta meh, and its ending has gotten fans in such an angry rage that there are memes forming about it.

I never played a Lionhead Studios game that made me say "WOW" the way a Bethesda, Bioware, Blizzard, or old school lucasarts game can.
Regardless if Molyneaux delivered on his promises, they'd still have been bland games because they were bland games from the ground up. A decent video game studio but nowhere near elite.

Kind of like the kid in school who does just enough to graduate.

Oh come on, if we're gonna hang Peter Molyneux for over-hyping games, how about we behead Bethesda's Todd Howard?

I don't think people dislike PM for overhyping games so much as flat-out promising content that can't be delivered in any sort of form.

There's overhyping and getting a lesser version of what you expected, and then there's Molyneuxification, where you get nothing close to what you were promised but it's still portrayed as being the best thing since sliced bread.

In defense of Fable, parts 1 and 2 were fantastic. I still sit down and play through them every once in a while and don't get bored even though I know exactly what will happen. That said, Fable 3 was a let-down on just about every front. The character customization was horribly dumbed down, combat was ridiculously easy, and the number of glitches (especially the one that was later patched which caused you to free-fall forever) made it really disappointing. Thankfully I took it better than my wife, who I'm quite sure invented at least fourteen new curses upon playing through the first few hours of the game. There's a lady who takes her Fable seriously....

I only found magic easy. You just spam the charged AOE attack. I'm pretty sure that ranged and melee were a fair bit more difficult than the previous games.

Black & White was pretty revolutionary with the ability to teach your creature different things. It was an interesting turn from the typical city sim or RTS.

I'm curious to see what this will mean for the Fable franchise. More specifically, I wonder how much of the series' direction was Peter Molyneux's vision, and how much of it was Lionhead's.
