About 4 years ago I made a huge IG force (in my gallery). The left over bits from the army have sat in my garage for the better part of 3 years. So, having bought the army when GW prices were (a little) more reasonable, I was able to acquire lots of leftover kits. So, I will not be spending even a single penny on this force, its going to come from whatever bits I have left after 10 years of gaming. My bits comprise two full desk drawers and a plastic case so I doubt I will have trouble finding creative solutions.

I'm a huge fan of the Gaunt's Ghosts books, especially Necropolis (read it more than twice). I have always wanted to make a rebel IG force. After spending most of my hobbying years as a loyalist, I figured it was time to turn traitor. Originally I was going to do Blood Pact but this has been done to death (and I probably can't compete with Dave Taylor's outstanding take on the Pact). So, I decided to go in a totally different direction and do a Chaos Undivided force.

The fluff is basically that these guys are newly turned traitor (within 5-10 years or so) and have some thrown-together units with hodge-podge/scavenged equipment. The more elite units, such as veterans, are more favored by chaos and so will have "gifts" (mutations). I have to do at least one unit of blood pact (because they're awesome) so they will likely be my second veteran unit.

I encourage ALL criticism and suggestions, please let me know what you think.

Thanks guys! Does anyone know where a good tutorial on converting IG flamers to plasmas are? I found one and tried it out (last pic) but would like to find a tut that is better.

I've always just used the pewter Plasma rifles (guns) that you can get for about 8 $ for 5 from the GW site, or I use the straight up plastic (SM or CSM) and use aiming arms and just cut out the las rifle.

From the looks of the one you did, I'd say you'd have to cut off more where the coils are, to shorten in, as it looks "awkwardly shaped" like that imo. I'd probably try it up to the little power cell on the bottom, so it looks as if the stock of the gun isn't too long, so you wouldn't be cutting off too much that you already have.

I always wanted to do a count-as plasma gunner who wields two plasma pistols. Maybe try that, it might look really good!

Hmmm...good suggestions, I will see what i can do. I agree with you Cy, it does look a little too long. I think I might fix that.

Update Time.

Started painting recently, all of them are about 50% PIP so def. not finished product. I wanted to see what you guys thought of the conversions. I shortened the plasma on one of the guys but left the other (so he would have a hand-grip). Also, I put a few mutations in the veteran squad. I didn't want to go too over the top with the mutations so I only did a few arms and heads. As always, C and C is welcome.

Okay so work was completed on the veteran squad. My "gifted" have all kinds of conversions which show their veteran status. I also made a command squad with some mutations. Let me know what you guys think:

First up is the Veteran Squad with 3x plasma guns. The Sgt. is an old Warzone mini (I think). The rest of the members are Empire militia with extensive greenstuff work, greatcoat trooper parts, and empire/pig iron heads.

The tentacled face and the head on the guy with the claw come from the WGF Greatcoat Shocktroopers sprue. I used everything from Empire militia to Cadian, to old school Chaos bits to make these guys.

I'm trying to make every Guardsman unique in some way. It's been pushing my modelling skills to the limit, which I really enjoy.

I dig the mutations on those guys! Great stuff, mate!

I think the next few modifications will be really fun. I'm running out of spare parts which is forcing me to get creative with the greenstuff.

Time for another update. Looking for a job at the moment so what better way to spend unemployment then on the hobby. First up is my next infantry squad. I had a bunch of leftover head-plumes from the AOBR Ork Boyz set so I cut them up and put them on the helmets of my renegades, the final effect looks decent (albeit a little large on the WGF helmets). I also got more ambitious with the bases and added some etched brass I had laying about from the GW base kit. As always, I used all the non-imperial/Cadian bits I could find to construct them. This means Empire Militia, Flagellant, WGF, Chaos, Ork, and even some metal Warzone figs make up the squad. I have also posted a hasty tutorial on how to make IG meltas in about 5 minutes, see below.

First the Squad:




Next a heavily mutated Plasma Gunner, look at his legs. I'm no ace with Greenstuff but I'm proud of the results:





How to make IG melta's in 5 minutes (not sure if someone already came up with this but this is how I do it):

1. Cut the flamer bit off at the grip.
2. cut the hose
3. Find a suitable backpack or tank
4. Glue a small piece of tube on the flamer bit



5. Fill in the gap with Greenstuff
6. Sculpt the barrel part with GS
7. When dry, sand it over so its smooth (pic shows not-sanded down version).





8. Run a piece of tubing (guitar wire, paper clip wire, whatever fits) from the flamer hose part to the backpack.

There it is, a melta in 5 minutes which costs next to nothing to make. You may want to sand down the barrel part and the middle green-stuffed area to make it smooth (not done in the pic). I hope this was helpful, for me it was the perfect way to get 5 melta guns which fit the IG scale and look decent.

I ran out of Cadian legs so I used the tank commander model from the tank accessory sprue, cut him in half, and gave him some tentacled legs.

Yup. It's gotten to the point now where I'm cannibalizing old tank crew models. The last infantry squad should be pretty interesting looking because I now have no Cadian parts left....
