Jealous that Horus is Warmaster

I have a friend who wants to get her first army soon, but she doesn't want vanilla marines or sob. Any ideas on what army she should pick. She tends to both shoot and assault so I doubt tau, but could use the hell

GK, SW, DE, and BA are all good choices. DA deathwing if she likes terminators.

There are tons of good things to pick from and if she wants to get into it then she should probably pick it.

She has tried ba and sw but said the way they play " didnt fit the way she plays

Homicidal Veteran Blood Angel Assault Marine

Grey Knights are the ultimate generalist army, doing well in both the shooting and assault phase. Also, with the low model count, they're a cheap army to pick up. Deathwing is similar, but a harder army to play.

This can be anything. Even Tyranids have a decent shooting phase now.

She obviously doesn't want any of the standard 'first armies' layered in power armour. Tell her to look at the models, find an army she likes the look of, and tell her how it plays. Go through all of the armies, showing her the ranges and a breif description of their overall playstyle.

Eldar maybe? they have a lot of specialized units, so you can have your Shooty components and your cc components

Can you get her to further define her "style of play"? Would make suggesting an army much easier.

Ork!

Don't even bother asking how she want to play. They do it all.

Most girls I know seem to like (if they like any 40k stuff at all that is) the eldar and dark eldar. Though both are quite hard to play they can do anything pretty well

I think Eldar is a good idea. You have units that assault and others that shoot. If you're feeling shooty on a particular day, there's nothing stopping you from going shooty, or vice versa. And I don't think it really affects your chances of winning if you prefer going shooty, assault or mixed with Eldar.

I like to imagine the Emperor kills so many Orks that he ends up half buried beneath a pile of corpses, with only his head sticking out. A lone grot stumbles across him, and starts choking him.

Then Horus comes across the lone grot, somehow managing to kill the Emperor, and punts it into space.

Dark Eldar.

Great looking models; about 50% female and are a fun army to play.

It's been my experience that females tend to be more, shall we say BLOOD THIRSTY than guys in competitive play; and DE fluff has that in spades.

Dark Eldar.

She can paint them pink / purple and they'll look awesome. They have some of the best shooting lists and some of the best assaulting lists.

Every female player I have met loves orks. Hell my girlfriend I got into the hobby started them up and decided to that all of her trucks were made out of salvaged sisters rhinos. They look really good. She will love the idea that her army took your toys and made them orky for her own uses. At least mine did.

When in doubt burn it, then burn yourself for doubting.

Prepare yourselves for the onslaught men. The enemy is waiting, but your Officers are courageous and your bayonettes sharp! I have at my disposal an entire army of Muskokans, tens of thousands of armour and artillery supporting millions upon tens of millions of the Imperium's finest fighting men with courage in their bellies, fire in their hearts and lasguns in their hands. Emperor show mercy to mine enemies, for as sure as the Imperium is vast, I will not!
