Hey All, Trying to write a somewhat competitive list to take on some grey knights/nids/Deldar/IG with. just thought i would come for some advice, and ask quite seriously how to spend my last 115 points, for i dont think a lone Vindicator would be of much assistance... though i may be wrong...

HQ Wolf Lord Wolf Mount, Storm Shield, Wolf Claw, 2 Fen Wolves, Saga of the Bear 250
HQ Wolf Lord Wolf Mount, Storm Shield, Wolf Claw, 2 Fen Wolves, Saga of the Warrior Born 250

Troop 6 Grey Hunters 1 Plasma, TLLC Razor 175
Troop 6 Grey Hunters 1 Plasma, TLLC Razor 175
Troop 6 Grey Hunters 1 Plasma, TLLC Razor 175
Troop 6 Grey Hunters 1 Melta, TLLC Razor 170
Troop 6 Grey Hunters 1 Melta, TLLC Razor 170
Troop 6 Grey Hunters 1 Melta, TLLC Razor 170

Fast Attack Thunderwolf Cavalry 5 Strong, 1 SS, 1 TH, 1 Melta Bombs, 1 SS/Melta Bombs, 1 Standard 350

This List should come out to 1885 for points, so i am wondering where to spend the rest,
my plan is to move the Razorbacks up and use them as Primary AT, and using the Melta/Plasma to get the rest, with the Wolf Cav and Lords move up Using the Razors as Cover, and kill some units, the first probably being a primary target then splitting the wolf lords to kill less Melee oriented units and the cav to kill stuff like Groups of Gaunts and whatnot.

It looks brutal. That's a lot of wolves to deal with and a good amount of ranged fire power. Here is a modification of yours that I think might be food for thought.

2 x Wolf Lords (As you equipped)

1 x Rune Priest (Tempest Wrath, Living Lightning)

3 x 5 Grey Hunters (Melta, Rhino, WG with Combi Melta)

2 x 5 Grey Hunters (Flamer, TL Las Razorback)

TWC Unit (As you equipped)

3 x 5 Long Fangs (4 x MLs)

1999

I think Rune Priests are becoming mandatory with the addition of the last 3 codexes. Also.... why not take long fangs? Unless you really don't want to, there is really no reason to exclude them. 115pts for 4 more missiles is a godsend. The list I put up is not necessarily better it's just a bit different. It trades 4 TL Las for 3 melta hunters and 12 missile launchers. Is it worth it? I'm not really sure, it's up to you. If you are planning on advancing the grey hunters with the TWC then I don't see why not. Either way it's a tough list.

Well As Much as i like the ML Fangs, im not sure i want to missile spam on them as i have no real way of getting that many Missile Guys without Buring all my money, so That is my only problem, would there be a Massive downside to using a more diverse range of weapons? like say 1 ML, 2 Plasma Cannons, and 2 Lascannons? Split fire and i can direct 2-3 templates and some Marines, or 2-3 AT shots to kill Transports... then it is straight from the box, and saves me money?

JDog I totally get it. I gritted my teeth for quite some time about the cost of a good SW army. Between the MLs, the non GW TWC, and the meltas it really adds up quick. I ended up buying all of my special weapons from forge world and I would recommend anyone to do so. They come with missile launchers and melta, which are both absent from SW sprues. If you have buddies that play it probably wouldn't be that hard to trade them or buy them for a few bucks. Had I known the people I know now.... I may have gone a different route. The Forge World models get a lot of attention though and look very cool. As for your question about other dev. squad weapons being worth it. In my opinion the answer is a definite no unless you are at 2500 points.

There are also always bits websites, and ebay out there to avoid buying full blown kits just for missile launchers and such.

That being said, this list looks pretty damn effective. I know if I ended up on the other end of the table, my first thought wouldn't be about an easy win.

It cost me €25 to get 11 missile launchers from Ebay, if you are clever about how you do it you can get them for a decent price.
The problem with forgeworld stuff is, for me, I hate working with fiberglasss. There is usually a lot of prep work and you have to do it all either outside(I live in Ireland so no) or you have to do it in a basin of water which is a pain in the arse.

My only worry about your list is that you seem to have a deathstar, those babies can only move through 1 unit at a time and will be taking all the fire your opponent can muster.
You don't have runic armour on the wolf lords or a wolf tail talisman, greyknights will be a problem and you have 2 of the expensive sagas. I would go with saga of magesty on one of them just to ensure that you have a means to re-roll your wolf lords LD. It happens and it has happened to me that a wolf lord in cc failed his rolls in cc pain in the ass.

I'd drop a troops choice and make 2 twc squads of 3 or 4 models with a decent load out so you can split the lords and their squads out to kill from the flanks to the centre.

It's not the size of the blade, it's how you use it.

Saga of Majesty will serve you better than Saga of the Bear. Also, there's sometimes some debate as to if a Saga counts as Wargear. I've never run into the problem myself and its easily fixed by putting a Meltabomb on one, though I'd probably put one on both and put a Talisman on one of them. If you want to keep Saga of the Bear, may as well give him a Fist/Hammer.

Cute, but kind of sub-par. Vehicles are easily silenced, especially AV11 vehicles. They may not blow them up but they won't be shooting. You are relying too much on them for your heavy weapons. You need...

That'll be cheaper money wise, but point wise? 5 Missile Launchers is 140 points. Your little squad there is what? 180?

That said, I understand how you feel. I have one Long Fang pack that has all Missile Launchers. Three are from Devastator boxes and two are from trades with my friend. The other two Long Fang packs I have run 3 Heavy Bolters and 2 Lascannons for 155 points. It does mean I'm forced to fire at infantry sometimes but usually there's a target available. Not always though.

That is expensive for no real reason. Have you used TWC before? 3 of them can smash pretty much any unit in the game. Taking 5 is cute but the diminishing returns on the additional TWC just don't make it really that worth it. You'd probably be better dropping the extra models or splitting them into two units like liturgies of blood suggested.

The Grey Hunters have to disembark to use the Melta/Plasma and with only 6 models they are a bit susceptible to enemy shooting and charges. The TLLC Razorbacks can again be silenced pretty easily, it only takes a roll of a 1 on the damage chart to cancel out your Lascannon for a turn. This is why Long Fangs are great! They are cheap and can't be silenced by a Crew Shaken roll.

another thought would be speeders for fast moving firepower and the ability to turboboost contest on the last turn. plus they are pretty cheap for points.
