Anyone have experience using fenrisian wolf packs as a fast attack choice in their army? I decided to buy a box of the new GW models last week and love the way they look.

I love the way the new models look too! They're very fluffy (no pun intended), but not especially great as a fast attack choice. I'll take them if I need to fill out ~50pts for a decent glass hammer, but there are much better choices. Fenrisian Wolves are better as wargear because then they can be ablative wounds for a TWC Lord, Lone Wolf etc.

However, with a character with Saga of the Wolfkin, they become much better. I'd recommend taking Canis Wolfborn with about 4 full units of Fenrisian Wolves + Cyber Wolves. That's 60 2A I5 units of Beasts for cheap. Then have TWC, Long Fangs, scoring Grey Hunters, etc fill out the rest of your slots. Probably not that competitive, but it should be very fun!

Wow, that's a alot of wolves for sure. I'm thinking of just buying two more packs for a total of fifteen and using them as a screen for my main force of grey hunters.

When I previously played SW for a while, I have to say one of my most successful things (considering how cheap they are, and I didn't expect them to do anything other than get in the way) were a pack of Fenrisiain Wolves (normally 15).

They have the extra movement/assault (think its 12 inch assault isn't it?), are very cheap, decent amount of attacks on the charge, you can make them better with Saga of Wolfkin. Ok they fall over easily, but for 120 points you get 15 of them, a squad or two offer you some mobile cover and a decent cheap unit that can chew up quite a bit in combat. Definatly worth taking in my book. Also love Andilus Greatsword's idea.

I like to take a unit of 10 and I attach my Wolf Lord on Thunder Wolf to them. It gives my Wolf Lord 10 extra wounds and a bunch of extra attacks in combat. But you have to be very careful, this can work against you if you attack something to strong and all your wolves are wiped out. You will lose a lot of combat res and be forced to run away in combat.

I run them across the field together then when it is time to assault, I split them up and let the Lord attack on his own. The wolves can then go free to attack something else or provide cover for something.

They can be okay if you use them right. Generally you want a Thunderwolf model near them as well (they can re-roll morale if within 12" of a Thunderwolf). They aren't bad for screening your important units and being Beasts can move pretty quick (19-24" effective charge range). They're basically Marines in close combat as well, though they aren't as durable. Saga of the Wolfkin can make them Init 5 but it doesn't necessarily make a massive difference.

Mainly I use them for fodder, though I find a squad of 15 Blood Claws does the job better, if at double the price.

I too run them mostly as wargear. But these new models sure are great to look at (and easy to paint too!!), so I find myself wanting to field them more often than I should.

I use them decently in my LoganWing army as screens. I have yet to try them with Canis, or with a TWL with SoW. If you wanted to make the super fluff army, taking them as troops seems like fun but not very effective.

I don't like the wolf blob with the Lord due to previous games against Chaos and Eldar shooting the gak out of the unit, and eventually making the lord run off the table. This of course is just a personal opinion, I am not saying whether or not it's a decent tactic.

End of Line

Can you hear the call of the North Star?
Feel its longing in your heart
This bond is eternal sworn through blood
At the end we will stand as one!
Even if the daylight dies
Our horde marches on and on
If we should fall down to the ground
We'll rise again and never give up!
