So this is my first ghost arc and first model I've finished from the new 'cron selections. I wanted to move away from the 'all green' vehicles but still tie together with my older stuff.

The rust is done by spraying the model w/ black primer
spray with Krylon oiled bronze metaillic
quick spray of Krylon nickel shimmer
Stipple Scorched brown
stipple beastie brown
stipple Marcharius orange
stipple snakebite leather.

Awesome, you really pulled off the rust. Why is the rust not on the 'crons themselves though?

Excellent job. The green highlighted (highlit?) recesses make a great contrast to the rusty effect.

I think this is the first weathered necron vehicle that i have ever seen. Every other necron army i have seen is all brand new and shinny. Good job man it looks great.

The only thing I can think is that they're "living metal" and they may have had the time to clean themselves but some of the lesser races may have shown up before they cleaned the vehicle?

Love the rust effect and awesome name for the Dynasty. Great seeing a Necron army that doesn't look like it just got back from the car wash!

The Ark looks fantastic.

I feel the Necrons inside could of used more focus.

That's because a lot of people feel that "living" metal really shouldn't be subject to oxidation.

Still, this is a really great paint scheme.

Great rust effect! that arc looks perfectly old.

I don't see how non-iron living metal would rust but great quality on the painting! I guess its a case of cool>realism

I'm not sure I've read any fluff that says LM doesn't oxidize.
"Necron Codex" wrote: Necron Vehicles are composed of semi-sentient alloy capable of incredible feats of resilience and self repair.

Here is my explanation for oxidation.
Living metal is actually cellular in nature but with matrices made of metal atoms vs other strucutural material. The indivdual cells don't self repair but instead oxidize and eventually die unless polished and maintained. The machine generates new cells internally which replace the existing shell/skin or damaged shell/skin. Very similar to the epidermal layer of a mammal. Constant shuffing off of dead (oxidized) cells to be replaced with new underneath but have died by the time they are the outter covering. A necron vehicle can always be maintained by polishing by the Overlord to maintain proper appearance but fresh from the sand Necrons always are mared by the appearance of oxidation.

Excellent critique. I avoided putting rust on the Warriors in the Arc b/c it wouldn't stand out at all. The figure (outside the green) would be just a big ball of brown. I may end up improving them w/ some green to show the repairs occuring or picking out the scarabs that are on them. Thank you.
