Hi,

it would be very awesome to do stuff like:
* Eldar (Initiative 5) charge an Ork squad (i 3) fight my round of combat
* other players turn, make use of the Hit & Run ability to "retreat from combat" (can I do this BEFORE blows are struck, since I have higher initiative value)?
* my player turn, charge again.

The problem is, I don not completely understand the all the rules regarding the "turn". (player / game turn)

So, is the situation I mentioned above allowed, or not?

Hit & Run happens at the end of the assault phase, so it would have to be after blows are struck. The rule makes no mention of whether it has to be in your turn or not, and the common interpretation is that it can therefore be used in the opponent's turn so you can turn around and charge in your own.

In any turn, after combat has been resolved, if you are still locked in combat, you may roll a d6. If the result is below or equal your unit's initiative value and not a six, you may make a move as described in the hit&run rules, leaving combat in the process.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

Is it truly that simple? I thought it was a matter of each player rolling off and adding their initiative value to the d6 roll. Then you had to beat (not tie) their number.

Have I been playing it wrong all this time? (All 3 times it has ever happened!)

Page 75. You take an initiative test.

You're thinking of Sweeping Advance with the comparing of inits.

Yep, many people play this wrong, because characteristic tests on initiative aren't all that common.

It's also lower or equal to your initiative. I'm surprised no one called me out that one yet

Ok, I want to make sure I'm clear on this. If I had a Keeper of Secrets (initiative 10) that was assaulted and survived combat could roll a d6 and could make a 3d6 move away and possibily charge the same unit during my assault phase, as long as I don't roll 1's?

If he rolled a 5 or less on his Init test (As a 6 always fails) Then yes, you could hit and run in your opponents Assault phase.

And the model actually has the USR Hit & Run.
I am unfamiliar with Chaos Daemons, so just wanted to clarify that Hit & Run can only be done if you have the USR Hit & Run.

Yup. The Keeper of Secrets can get H&R by taking the Soporific Musk upgrade.

Is there anywhere in the brb I can go to in order to confirm should this ever come up?

Lol, and I thought I was a noob for asking such questions.

Its quite comforting to see that im not the only one to still make errors and have misconceptions of the "not so clearly written" 40K rulebook...

Pointing out the obvious here but I've seen it done.

Just remember it sometimes isn't a wise idea to Hit and Run after your assault phase is over. You open your unit up to getting shot and assaulted during your opponents' next turn.

When you have H&R is it for just the model that has the rule, or does it apply to the unit it is in too?
