Hi Guys

Since i'm now 100% sure of my 1500 points list, i thought i'd work out a 1000 point list. Now i run a Vulkan list at 1500 points, so it took a while to work out reasonable alternatives to Vulkan's LR Deathstar. Take a look and let me know what you think

HQ:
Librarian - Null Zone, Gate of Infinity - 100

Troops:
Tactical Squad - Flamer, Missile Launcher, Power Fist - 195
Rhino - 35
Tactical Squad - Flamer, Missile Launcher, Power Fist - 195
Rhino - 35

Elites:
Sternguard Veteran Squad - 5 Combi Meltas - 150
Rhino - 35

Heavy Support:
Predator - Auto/Las - 120
Predator - Auto/Las - 120

Total - 985

Now, Marines are hard to build into a strong list at lower points, because their strong Troops cost a fair bit of points each.
But i have tried to keep some of the strength in the list with the solid troop choices and the 2 preds.
I have added the Sternguard as a rapid response unit. Using the Librarians GoI, i can get to places quickly to annihilate what ever is in the way. I have kept a rhino for the unit to add a little bit more Target Saturation, having a choice of 3 rhinos to shoot at over 2 is better. And it doesn't matter all that much if it gets destroyed, the Librarian has GoI to move them around faster.

So, any C&C?
Thanks

1000 pts? Too small for a fun game but here comes

Libby

TLAC TLAC Dread
TLAC TLAC Dread

Tac - ML - Melta - Rhino
Tac - ML - Melta

Pred Auto/Las
Pred Auto/Las

Still have 25 pts left for a fist or 2 combi-weapons on tac squads. I prefer 2 combi-melta on the sarge.

GoI is a bad way to move around. Not only does it drift, it kills one guy if you ever roll double. That is 1/6 chance which means almost every game, you will be losing 1 sternguard from using GOI every turn to move around. Plus Null Zone is the only power you ever need to cast.

Rifle man dreads dont appeal to me. i mean, 4 re-rollable S7 shots... Meh. Its too weak to be destroying AV 12 tanks, to few shots to be effective against horde, and not good enough AP to be worth it in terms of elite infantry.
On Dreadnoughts, i prefer Assault Cannon and Missile Launcher. Atleast you get rending, and a pie plate. Not to mention Krak Missiles.

Well, thanks for your input anyway
i'll take a look at dropping the Sternguard and 1 tact squad for a scout squad and see how that looks.

Sigh. The problem is without re-rolls, you will miss with that 1 single Str 8 shot you have. And it costs the same point as the S7 TLAC.

TLAC is specifically to pop AV11 (to some degree AV12). Mathematically speaking:

Assault cannon needs 3+ then 6+ for pen of AV12 (no reroll) at range 24".
TLAC needs 3+ (reroll) then 5+ to glance 6+ to pen of AV12 at range 48".

Your Assault Cannon dread will need to walk for 2 turns to get to where you want him to be. The TLAC dread will keep firing and firing and firing AND he gets cover too.

Against elite infantry, your assault cannon can't kill them fast enough (especially when they are in your face the next turn blowing you up with meltagun). It is the 24" that puts Assault cannon at a significant disadvantage for popping transports.

Anyway, just my 2 cents. Give it a try.

Ok, i suppose i shouldn't knock it till i try it. I'll give it a go next time in in a friendly game.
