intresting on this, glad you started this thread .. i am trying to fine tune a 1000 point Tournament roster as well. but i will say this.. IMHO at 1000 Imotekh is not the HQ you should bring he cost too much. not sure i'd bring the Ctan either. Necrons are mid range shooting army. so you need somthing to help you get around the board fast for objectives as well. Replace Imotekh and C'tan and use the points to help movement such as Doom scythe and tomb blades. Flayed ones are a distraction at most or tar pit. if your grouping your basic nec lord with warriors, no need for Res Orb.. let the ghost ark rebuild your units. at 1000 I find the D-lord is a must but i normaly don't get to take a Court when i play him. its more of a "steal punch" roster.. no trickery tactics. i've been playing tournaments at 1000 and my club practice at 1000 its really hard to find that combo at 1000 that works well and is a Strong hold by 4th round.

At 1000 points imo, it is a bit small to have Imotekh and a Ctan. They are chewing up a lot of points. Especially since they're more of a support role so theres not too much benefit going around
here is what i have been running in my club / tournament at 1000
HQ = Dlord - Warscythe, Semp weave, Mind scarabs. 160

troops = 9X warriors (ghost ark ) 349

Fast Attack = 3X scarab swarm 45
heavy = Annihilation Barge 90
Doom Scythe 175
Canoptek spyder, TL Par Beamer, Fab claw 85 ( I hold my swarms back and build them up till i get to about 5 or 6 then really start accross the board, he is also my repair mech for heavy support )
total = 999
like i said i'm still trying to fine tune this, as you can see no trick tactics here just a "fist fight" roster pretty much.

here is what i am going to try next time i am at the club for 1000
HQ= overlord, staff of light, Phaeron - 110
court = harbinger of storm, voltaic staff ( haywire helps become anti tank )
harbinger of Destruction, eldritch lance, solar puls - total court cost 80
troops = 6X immortals gauss, (team up with over lord) 102
8x warriors with ghost ark ,(team up with harb of storm) 219
8X warriors (team up with harb of Destruction)
I like this alot better,, but i'd say drop one of your spyders and a tad of warriors to add a annihilation barge.. at 90 points.. its pretty much a must take model at so low point games. your enemy will focus fire power on your lych guard right off the bat so carful on VOD with them, i'd keep them with the over lord that has the resorb. i was runing a group of Praetorians with my D-lord but found out they have "shoot me" writen on thier fourhead so by the time i make it accross the board i was normaly down to 2 plus a wound on my Dlord. but give this a try def let me know how it works out. use your swarms to draw attention .. if you can get them into a vehicle more the better but there is alot of weapons that will instant kill them because of thier low Toughness.

yes if you have to get the ok from the host to see if they let you proxy destroyers for tomb blades.. noramly its ok to proxy down just not up. if that makes since.
what else do you have for heavy support? and i'm guessing this is a wysiwyg tournament?
it also took me a while to "like" the annihilation barge but it does work good and have seen it tip the table in my favor before. the St 7 works good also with the tesla rule of a single 6 = 3 hits. the arking.. hmm i've seen it work well but you can't bank on it.

I like Gauss over tesla not a huge fan of the tesla carbine.. i'd take gauss blaster over that any day. just don't do what i do and forget to use it lol. so yes gauss gauss gauss.. thats what necrons do best. is this a friendly game or tournament?
Automatically Appended Next Post: the only thing that i see that has a " shoot me " sign on it .. is the lychgaurd.. make sure you keep those expensive boys with the res orb lord.. they can provide cover for your swarms half way cross the table then turn the swarm loose by then you should have 9 swarms built up. don't forget you can also add swarms even if they are in Close Combat. tar pit a enemy unit and keep adding swarms. or let them eat armor off vehicles.

It's a "mini" tournament in our FLGS. I'll try out both lists since we are only 16 players total and our meta is pretty different. Mechanized IG is our biggest threat for example.
Hopefully the scarabs won't get flamed turn one or barraged for that matter.
hold your swarm back in cover for two rounds build them up then turn them loose..so you going to run your above list as is? i will tell you its been hard on me to find a good 1000 points so please keep me posted on how this works.
i have a friend that runs Space Marines.. but he is assault guy.. so all his vehicles he has moves at 12' because they are assault.. so running my swarms against him don't work well cuz then i only hit on 6.. so i have to use "gauss" to stop his vehicles.

you say that as if it were bad. I always shoot at vehicles. Gauss is extremely useful since a 1 is all you need. A 3 is not good but there is only 1/6 chances of that.
The first list will at least hold long range fire back for a turn or two.
no not a bad thing at all.. i was just wondering.. i'm also trying to think out side the box on making somthing that works strong at 1000. that way when you report back and let us know what is happening the pros and the cons maybe i need to change my view point on my roster.. basicaly two minds work better then one lol.

I don't either since my FLGS only brought one (I'm the only necron player in the COUNTRY) and another player bought it because he wants to play necrons too...but he can do "something" in order for me to get them too...
well aslong as its friendly.. then proxy away find something that works well for you. when i first started playing 40k i proxyed alot.. i started out with the old necron battle force. 28 warriors, 7 swarms, 3 destoryers.. and have built up to 2600 raw points now. that just model cost no war gear added.

*With the stormlord in a transport you can use his doombeam like a monster, thanks to the glories of open topped.
Imotehk is only a non-choice in 1k when you want to use a 200+pt unit like c'tan (or lychguard). That's my take on it. Personally I think he's one of the strongest units in the game, as his lightning is random, but extremely strong. str 8 d6 rolls has a fair chance of penning most non superheavies, and destroys transports on a regular and frequent basis. It also instakills most every single infantry.
Since transports are so common, and I've yet to play against a list that doesn't use at least one, I just can't get over the utility of lightning. Add to that his destroyer staff, phaeron upgrade, and general overlord strengths he's just the core of almost every army I make at 1k.
Not to mention reserving to avoid the lightning is a blessing for slow-moving necron. If they give you time to set up your shooties on objectives then you should win, regardless of perfect late game reserve deployment.
The one thing I don't understand in a lot of small lists (1k) is the whole 5man mentology of necron squads. 5 Lych, 5 DM, 5 Immortals, I see it all the time. I'd much rather have the equivalent pts from Lychguard in warriors, or hell, even wraiths. I understand why people like lych, and by god they have cool models, but in small lists I'd take a c'tan before I touched just a 5-man of lych.
In small games it seems like it always comes down to:
1. How many durable but cheap troops do you have to hold points?
2. How many vehicles do you have to spread anti-tank fire?
3. How many fast units do you have to contest points at the last minute?
In scarab-spyder lists it always seems like you're meant to lock the scarabs in combat asap and leave them there the whole fight. I tend to use mine for that only as a last resort. My primary use for them is to hide in cover near one of the "unclaimed-till-turn-4" objectives. With the assault, or the threat of assault, they can weaken even a strong cc unit for a turn and last maybe two, giving you some breathing room elsewhere to grasp for points.
PS: KPs is a joke with necron in my experience, lock your army into huge mobs and just laugh while the enemy tries to pick off units for a kill point while you constantly regenerate :x.
viti... that is thinking out of the box.. i have the stormlord model but have only used him once and it didn't go well on the lighting thing. but i will def revisit him again take another look.. like i said i'm not opposed to other idea's at all. more input is better. maybe i need to field him more offten.

His ability depends too much on luck(the lightning that is) I wouldn't rely on it heavily. Sure its a nice plus but what I really think gives it a kick is night fighting turn 1 plus initiative stealing.
I never thought of using anything but a warscythe since it would have a better chance at penetrating tanks.
While I tested the barge I didn't really get many hits and the the one that hit DID destroy the vehicle...then the barge immediatly dies from units firing it/assaulting it.
D-lord with 5 praetorians with Void blades and casters very nice anti tank unit.. but very costly as well for low level games. i am really liking the Doom scythe though.. for 175 points you have a fast skimmer.. that can move 12' and shoot all weapons.. plus you can fly flat out at 36' and get a 4+ cover save.. and living metal rule..plus not open top.. draw back.. AV11.. still the Death Ray.. wow what a punch S10 ap 1 hit line, talk about mow down some troops and hit a tank or two up to 3 D6 in inches. how ever i have rolled shot a 4 and two 1's total of 6 inch.. yeah that sucked but on avge your looking at 10 inchs give or take.

correct but its 3 D6 not 2.. so basicaly the first marker is any where up to 12' of model then roll 3D6 and from the first marker thats how many inches.. thats why i say .. on avg 10 inches from marker .. still i have rolled very high with this and i have fell short too..lol but very fun to watch your oppent go " oh crud "
so really your looking at the total range can be 12' .. and if you roll 3 6's .. 18' so a total of 30 inch from the model..

Kilink ... the fourth post on here .. my first roster.. i played that last night.. and did very well with it. we only got to round 4 and had to quit.. i was playing SM and had wiped out a unit of 10 jump assault marines.. a land speeder.. swarms got into cc with a unit of 5 tact and i keep pumping swarms in the battle and they ended up killing them.. my Dlord took out a scout squad. the only thing i didn't get glance or take out was his land raider and he had alot of laz stuff on it.. and i had his other 10 man squad of tact down to half strength.. now what i lost was my annihilation barge, ghost ark, doom scythe, and a unit of warriors. so it was a reallly good battle.

No, not the lychguard roster. This one hehehe. It did very well. I used anrakyr to take control of a razor wings and shoot the furioso from the back. I kept forgetting to use my chronometron to re-roll stuff so that was one of the reasons I lost. I played very bad but we ended in a tie. It's a very solid list. The Ark is extremely useful against infantry and pretty good versus vehicles. Just make sure to position it so you can rotate it.
I like this list.. after you play it .. let me know i don't have that many destoryers or i would try this list as well. I play alot of WYSIWYG games. so id' have to buy more destoryers to do this but looks good im building some Tomb blades i've been liking what i have seen with these guys. Keep me posted on this.. if we can come up with a good 1000 pts roster we need to make sure and share it for all the other cron players that do small point battles. and tournaments.

Just had a 750pts Seize Ground game vs Grey Knights.
List was:
Overlord w/ warscythe & Res. Orb
7 Immortals
7 Necron Warriors
7 necron warriros
2 Destroyers
1 Heavy destroyer
Doomsday Ark.
I also tested the last list I posted but got rid of one regular destroyer and replaced the Overlord with anrakyr the traveler. I fought vs Blood Angels and, even though deepstrike is your worst enemy, I almost won. In the end we tied on our Capture and Control Spearhead game.
The key here is the Veil of Darkness...Mind in the Machine helped destroy a Furioso Dreadnaught, though
so the LynchGaurd Roster did very well.. tell me a little about it.. did you have them stay put or march them accross the board as walking shields / cover? i'm very intrested in those guys.
