I was looking at some of my assembled plague marines last night and noticed a few of them had either one messed up morphed blade arm, and a chainsword/axe and others had a pistol and a morphed arm so I was curious as how far I could stretch the count as rule and what others thought of it.

My idea was to assemble a squad of 8 "plague marines" with close combat weapons/ bolt pistols and call them khorne for gaming purposes. I do love the fluff of khorne and find others fear them on the table (rightly so) but their models would seriously not fit in with a death guard army. I'm happy to take them as plague marines and leave it at that but again, curious about if it would cause issues on table for anyone else?

TL;DR
Modelling plague marines for khorne in game. Ideas?

I'd be inclined to just buy Khorne Marines. Here in the UK, they are £2 cheaper, and you get 5 more marines.

But there is no limit to stretching the counts as rule. (well, within reason - No Titans Counts as Venerable Dreadnought... ). Just inform the other player as you start, shouldn't be too bad if its a friendly

If you modeled Death Guard-appropriate Khorne Berserkers then it could work. I've seen people do that sort of thing in Daemon armies, where they'd model Bloodletters to look like Nurgle daemons so they could fit in visually with the army.

I play Word Bearers, so every specialist unit in my army is counts as. Small, subtle differences to tell them apart.

So yeah, I see no reason you wouldn't be able to do that.

I'm buying up battleforces and making all the marines myself, I don't see the sense in buying kits on their own if they can be made or come with a battleforce, its cheaper in the short and long term.

Isn't that our whole purpose?

I've seen the count as rule be abused quite a bit, seen games where people use paper cut out circles and write on them as their army... That might be a bit much unless they were new to the game.

My old army was word bearers, I ended up doing a chaplain and a command squad as khorne, worked out fine and people had no problem with it in game.

Thanks!

If i put two squads on the table, 8 of the top guy and 7 of the bottom. Would you be really that confused?
