In my never ending quest to have exponentially more flashlights than my brother has space marines, I have stumbled upon a company that seems to have some seriously good deals for infantry.

http://wargamesfactory.com/announcements/shock-troops-sci-fi-greatcoat-infantry-up-for-pre-order

The 7 boxes for 118 bucks seems good for 126 guys. Has anyone bought from them before? How is the quality? Are they easy to work with/ mod if I want? also WHAT IS IN THE SECRET SPOT?!??! it has been driving me nuts. I figured you guys would be better sources than a random google search so if any of you have done this can ya let me know how it went?

I also cant tell if I need to buy bases for them, do they come with bases? if not where is the best place to get bases?

PS if you feel comfortable please share a picture of one of your finish products, i just want to see how they look mixed in with other guardsmen.

much love, DREAD

Chimeras > rhinos (course then again piling a regular squad out of a chimera usually creates a scene similar to Omaha beach during D-Day)

The detail on the models has been called "soft" by some, "greasy and poopy" by others. The poses are limited and okay, but some of the arms are absolutely horrible. The secret spot has a squid/Cthulhu looking head. They're taller than regular Guardsmen, but how much of this is due to their built-in base I forget. You will need to buy bases for them, which you can get via GW's round bases set, a number of sellers on eBay, or some folks who manufacture blank plastic bases.

I read that i would have to cut off the made bases, does anyone have a comparison of the two like side by side?

what would "soft" entail? like "green army men"

The detail lacks hard edges, much like your typical green army men. You would have to cut off the bases; they are also just like those on green army men.

I've heard much the same thing about them, but for the price they're still pretty decent alternatives. If I got them, I'd swap the arms for Cadian ones (which you can usually get pretty cheap off bitz sites) and would consider replacing the heads. But then it starts to get expensive again...

I love em..

My 13th Taglian Lancers use those greatcoat bodies, and the "helghasty:" heads with Cadian lasguns, and sarge arms..

There is a molded on base to the Greatcoat guys, but with the basing I did on my guys, it is hidden well.

other shots in my Dakka gallery under the 13th Taglian Lancers folder.. and they do look better in person than thru my medium-cost camera..

wow pork, that really looks great! how does the paint hold on them? it is pretty much the same as painting on GW stuff?

so what I;m reading is to ditch the arms and cut away the molded bases? i do like the heads but i really just want hem for the great coats and the quantity/$$$ ratio

Well,

I tried to cut away the bases from the feet, but, really, it got to be too much work for me, so I covered up with the scatter on the bases.

I primed them brown, and painted with NO issues on that.

Some of the guns and original arms work well as "meltas" and I combined their rifles with SM Plasma Pistols to make Plasma Guns.. likewise used their arms for my Veterans

there are a few pictures of the plasma guys in my Stormtroopers...

Paint will hold on anything and everything as long as you prime it. The plastic they're made from is hard plastic, it's just the details that are soft, as in they're lacking definition.
