Subject: Do I need anything other than d6 and scatter die?

I see a die in the Island of Blood starter set that looks like a standard six sided die on it but I see the number "10" on it...
If I already have a scatter die from 40k and a ton of d6, do I need another kind of special die? I also assume that the templates are the same....

That d6 you see with a 10 is an 'artillery die' it has 2,4,6,8,10 and misfire on its faces. Its used for certain siege weapons and spells I think.
Some armies will use it a lot, while some not at all to be honest.
edit; in those dice cubes GW sell you get a scatter and an artillery with 25 standard d6. This would probably be a good way to get one. Either that or a friend who has many sets perhaps will just give you one? (anyone who plays 40k only and purchased a dice cube would likely have it spare)

I don't see anything on gw's website that lets you buy it separately... do I seriously have to buy island of blood to get that 1 friggin die? <_<;

I did mention the dice cube in my edit hehe
Thats going to be the cheapest way to get one (those ones are the smaller sized die though, unlike the ones in IoB which are slightly larger (same as the 40k scatter one I believe).. not really a big deal, but the larger size does help to instantly find it amongst many other d6's... if you know any skaven players, they may well have already purchased several island of blood sets for cheap clanrats and weapons teams (the poison wind mortar is a unique model to the island of blood box)
edit; Forgot about the templates erm yes theyre very very close.... I just held up my fantasy ones to the 40k ones. After years of believing theyre just the same I discover that the 40k ones are a tiny tiny amount larger, more noticably on the round templates. (its really not a lot, e.g. the large blast template is roughly 2-3mm wider diameter) however this probably will matter for tournament play, in friendly play if both sides use the same templates I dont see an issue.

 No problem.
If money is tight and no one has a spare, you could equate a regular d6's results to an artillery die,
While a standard d6 has opposite sides adding to 7, the artillery die has opposites adding to 14, while 2 is opposite misfire....
roll a d6 and double it, 6 is misfire. Thats all the artillery dice does I think.

That works. I've also seen a poor man's scatter die used with an eight or ten sided die as the pointer. Those are generally available as a single die purchase.

This correct. I've done this many times.
Just make sure you inform your opponent because it confuses the heck out of people who have never seen this trick before.
