So i know the basics of Skaven play, tarpit hammer and anvil, etc. But the finer points of different unit sizes and good and bad unit choices elude me.

Such as Clanrats and Slaves. What size units do i take them in? How should I line up my Charges? Engage with a smaller unit of slaves and flank charge with a large unit of Clanrats? IMHO Clanrats seem like utterly lacking main combat units.

I am fairly new at wargaming so please forgive my ignorance, will someone help enlighten me on how i should go about playing skaven and some key points in building a skaven list?

I've checked the underempire, and i still find their new guides somewhat lacking in the info i desire.

Any experience Skaven players want to divulge some secrets?

50+ slaves unit with a musician and standard though some don't agree on the standard, go 5x10 and stay steadfast. You do not want small units of slaves, and clan rats are redundant in slave spam

alright, awesome!

Thanks for the quick reply my friend. So i always use Slaves over Clanrats? or do a combination of the two? When should i differentiate between the two units?

I have another couple of questions,

Do Skaven still only miscast on a roll of 13? or do they get double 6's like everyone else?

Greyseer or Warlord? Under 1500 points? Above 1500 points?

HPA's, what is deadly to them? How and when should i use them?

Clanrats are only useful to push a bell and even then storm vermin do the job better IMO.

Slaves do not need anything other than a muso

Slaves can't have a standard. They can have a champ, which is debatable on use though.

Clan rats have their place as bunkers for your characters, and also for tying down units that have enough attacks to saw through slaves quickly enough to remove steadfast. So, you generally don't want to use slaves exclusively although some do. I usually run 50 slaves with musician, and Clan Rat units are 30 w/ Shields and musician/standard bearer. Clan Rats also get you access to weapon teams; slaves do not. Small units of slaves CAN be used as redirecting units (units that run forward at an angle so the enemy is forced to stop, or expose its flank) but I haven't tried that yet.

Skaven follow the normal BRB rules for magic now, with the exception that Grey Seers and the Vermin Lord do not have to pick their Lores when the army list is made up, they can decide how many of each to roll during deployment.

Few general rules for skaven:

1. Protect your BSB; he's as important if not more so than your general.
2. Ranks. Unless you're pushing a Bell or Furnace, you need those ranks for leadership. Horde is almost never the answer.
3. Do NOT put your general in with Slaves. When they break (and they will) he's gone along with them.
4. Warlock Engineer + Doom Rocket. Best 45 points you will spend.

Not really sure what else there is. General tactics are to bog down your opponent's biggest hammer with a block of 50 or more slaves, then hit it from all sides with magic, warp lightning cannons, hell pits and whatever else you have. Games rarely play out that way, mind...
