There are are large variety of different builds in the Necron codex, to the point that you could both have a totally separate play style, while using the same dex.

You both need to go with an Army that you will enjoy painting, and enjoy playing. If that's the same, so be it.

It's only bad if you guys think it's bad.
Yes, it will be more monotone than if you'd had two different armies, but if you both like Necrons best and will get more enjoyment out of them than any other army go for it.
Tomb World fighting another Tomb World for territory or some ancient artifact certainly is no uncommon occurence and the Necron codex is varied enough to accomodate two wildly different yet equally good armies.

You can just paint them differently and say they're from separate dynasties and that way for "fluff reasons" there is no concern with fighting each other. In fact Necrons are one of Necrons hardest armies to play against (imho)

On the plus side you can't complain that one army is more overpowered than the other... its horrible if you're brothers and your armies are a bad matchup. And when playing other people you can combine your forces in a single team for 2v2

If you both like Necrons, then go for it. The Necron codex has a lot of versatility in it, and you two can have very different army lists. Plus, as Meade said, it will make for some fun 2v2 matches.

Go and get a brother who doesn't have the same interests as you.

This way you don't have to share anything with the ungrateful little sod.

My brother and I never wanted to do the same things after about the age of 6 or so.
It was better this way. I got to do geeky stuff, while he was off being the jock of the family (and eventually the alcoholic).

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

This doesn't belong in DD. it belongs in 40k discussion.

Its double win!!!

Me and my cousin share some armies together, we have the mandatory core which we can both use.
Then we buy w/e else units we think is cool. Then we can mix and swap later on if we want to try new stuff.
