Subject: Can you help me salvage my Necrons?

I haven't played Necrons since last April. When the new codex released, I quickly realized my army as I knew it was ruined.
Here is what I own:
Necrons
Deceiver
Destroyer Lord
Limited Edition Lord
30 Necron Warriors
15 Destroyers
14 Scarabs
9 Heavy Destroyers
2 Monoliths
In fact, the army is so poor under the current codex, I haven't even been able to sell it at less than 50% of retail.
My question for you is this:
How would you go about salvaging this army? What would you add? What would you keep?

I would use all the scarabs. They're crazy good. Probably leave out the C'Tan. They're kind of silly now. That one power that makes meltaguns blow up in your face is kind of cool, but other than that... negative. If you're going to buy anything to fill it out I would go with the ghost arks, just on the general principle that since resurrection is what necrons do, anything that helps you do it more is a good thing. Other than that I couldn't really say, since I'm not a necron player. Some of the other posters will probably have better advice.

I would get some barges and some crypteks. Toss in a few more scarabs and maybe some wraiths and with the warriors filling out troops you got a decent army

If you're having trouble selling your army in one piece it is probably because of the high number of destroyers in it. Destroyers went from being great to not so good in the current codex. The rest of what you have is pretty good. Get a few crypteks, lords, immortals, and maybe some lychguard, throw in one or two command barges, some annihilation barges, ghost arks, spiders, and you're set.

It seems a good start would be two Command Barges, 3 x 5 Warriors with 2 Crypteks each, 3x4 Scarabs, and 3 Annihilation Barges?

However, it's quite possible that destroyers will go from "Good, but better options exist in the same slot." to "Shooting always hits on 3's, marines die" with 6th edition. For now, I'd look into some Crypteks for courts. They'll definitely help out wherever you want to take your army.

I wouldn't get rid of the Destroyers.
It is rumored that Preferred Enemy will apply to shooting in 6th edition. If this is true then Destroyers would become awsome again.

As the others have said- everything in there is good except for the Destroyers, and they're okay, just a bit outclassed by the sexier Wraiths and Scarabs in Fast Attack.
I would think a good use of your existing models would be something like:
Overlord on foot with Phaeron, Mindshackle, Warsythe (other stuff optional).
Leading big squad of 15+ warriors.
C'Tan with Writhing Worldscape, Lord of Fire
1-2 Crypteks of Destruction with Eldritch Lance, one with Solar Pulse. A few more Crypteks with Tremorstaves. Maybe one to join the Lord's unit equipped with either Lightning Field or the thing that makes enemy units lose 1-3 inches off their charge range. Alternately, you could put a non-IC Lord in there with Mindshackle and Warsycthe to make them even more of a PITA in HtH.
3x 5 man squads of warriors.
1 squad of 5 Destroyers including 3 heavies
1 Monolith
2 squads of 7 scarabs
Some spyders to make more scarabs and act as extra counterassault.
Possibly an Annihilation Barge and/or second Overlord on Barge depending on the points total you're building.

24 destroyers is still rough, max in the new book is 15. The ctan with withing worldscape, 2 solar pulse/tremor royal courts, and 9 heavy destroyers can work by maximizing your engagement range with 12 inch move and 36 range and minimizing theirs with night fight and painful terrain. But other than that, you wont get much out of those destroyers until after 6th ed maybe makes them better.

Barges are an obsolute bargain, get as many as you can.
Annihilation barges tend to perform really well vs infantry and light armour, plus the kit give a "free" overlord model (or bits to make cryptek/lords with).
So if you bought 3 barge kits you could end up with 2 Annihilation barges, 1 Command barge, 1 overlord and 2 lords/Crypteks!
Also the new Box Set is a steal as well (massive saving) and will bump up your warrior count as well as get you a ghost ark.
i am in a similar boat where i can't afford to go out and buy the new "go-to" troops choice, Immortals so am stuck witht he 10 i currently have.

I had a similar problem to you when the new codex dropped my collection included. 30 Warriors Destroyer Lord 10 Destroyers Monolith 12 Scarabs C’tan Lord My first step was to buy 3 barges. I made 2 Annihilation and one CCB. Made 1 Overlord and 2 Crypteks from the bits. Since then I have found Deathmark heads and guns on ebay and done conversions to 5 warriors. One of the nice things about Necrons is that with some $5 bits off ebay and some left over warriors bodies you can make a multitude of different units. Planning on doing this conversion next http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/255706.page The pretty standard "mechanical skeleton" theme makes kitbashing really nice and affordable. Realistically with a tiny bit of green stuff and a well stocked bits box, Immortals, Crypteks, Flayed Ones, Wraiths, and possibly tomb blades could all be made after picking up warriors and appropriate bits.
