So my 5 year old tells me the other day that he wants his own warhammer model so he can play games with me and the wife. So I took him down to the LGS and let him pick out any blister(within reasonable price). He selected Elector Count Valmir Von Raukov. So we took him home, and painted him up. My son chose all the colors, and he painted the horse himself. So here's my sons first model!

Not bad for a first timer , how old if I may ask?

That's pretty impressive. I'm sure that's better than my painting skills

He's 5. I painted the rider, he just chose the colors. He painted the horse though. I'm excited for him to paint more as I've wanted an apprentice for some time now lol.

^ Why would you post this? Your son seems to have a good eye when choosing colours. IMO they go together quite well.

why would he not post it, there is nothing like a fathers pride. i remember years ago that a top painter was letting his daughter paint his war machine figures all he did was base coat them white and she used red, green, yellow and blue paint thinned down to a wash. his daughter was 3 years old and honestly they had a uniform look to them and looked good when placed next to one another. they reminded me of metal easter eggs. we all need to get children involved in the art of painting minis and playing the game. just cause its not the best of the best does not mean it does not belong in the showcase section.

Aerethan keep him painting

Because it's a finished model. Though I'm sure you had professional painting skills when you were 5 years old...

You must be very proud!

Encourage him daily. The pursuit of artistic endeavours in children is the most valuable, IMHO.

I think the horse could do with some shading on the armour, and a mithril silver highlight on the ridges .
Na Joking, top job there from the little fella, its a great hobby for kids as it teaches patience which is a valuable commodity today.
When i was younger i always wished my Dadcould play with me when i seen dads in the shop with their kids, an army each etc. While i didnt get to play with my Dad I am now playing and painting with my boys.
Its great.

He's FIVE? He's better than me! ha ha ha! Good job involving him in the hobby. It's the first step to a lifelong passion you will be able to share together.

When's Count Valmir's first battle? I am looking forward to the battle report.

Dad playing warhammer with me? Wow, my dad think this is some type of childish loss of time. What i would give to make him understood the rules...

Hey, the color selecton is great. But i would encorage him to cover the whole horse in that one color, and maybe after it, paint the armor with a different one .

If my post show some BAD spelling issues, please forgive-me, english is not my natural language, and i never received formal education on it...

Outstanding for a five year old! Really nice. You must be very proud, and I would be, too.

That said, it's still not really appropriate for Showcase, as it does not have a finished base. Moving to P&M.

That looks great, nothing makes a dad quite as proud as painting with his little ones! I've been painting with my daughter since she could hold a brush, I have lots of purple/pink Orks in my army

"Orkses never lost a battle. If we win we win, if we die we die fighting so it don't count. If we runs for it we don't die neither, cos we can come back for annuver go, see!"

I dig how in a setting where giant, muscled fungus men ride Mad Max cars and use their own teeth as currency, the concept of little engineering dudes with beards was considered a step too far down the aisle of silliness.

The purpose of the Showcase forum is to show off completed works for the enjoyment of other members, and the rules require a finished base as well. A neatly-painted base can constitute finished, depending on context. This mini is great for what it is, and he has every reason to be proud, but the Showcase isn't quite the right place for it.

Thanks for reading and heeding the rules.
