Okay, I just want to make sure I have this right:

ICs are counted as a separate unit during an assault phase, (under the entry of ICs and assaults) therefore the attacking side must allocate attacks to both the IC and the squad:

for example: 5 TH/SS v. IC and unit. Declare 3 terminators will attack the squad and 2 will attack the IC? Is that right? Do those 2 need to be in b2b or does that only apply to the IC needing to be in b2b to attack?

I'm sure this question has been asked a thousand times, I'm just in a hurry for an answer because a friend of mine and are are discussing it at the moment.

Thanks!

Any model in B2B with only the IC must attack the IC.

Any model in B2B with only the unit must attack the unit.

Any model in B2B with both the IC, and the unit must declare which one he is attacking.

Any model not in B2B with anything, but is only within 2" of someone in B2B with only the IC must attack the IC.

Just for clarity: ICs are only counted as separate units when attacks are made, rather than for the whole phase. This makes a big difference for things like falling back and No Retreat.
