Hi!

I really really like the TWC, both the idea as well as the models. I usually play BA but I was thinking of starting a bit of Space Wolves just for the TWC.

Here's what I came up with at 1000 Points:

Wolf Lord w/Frost Axe, Belt of Russ, Thundwolf mount, 2 Fenrisian Wolves, Saga of the Bear, 250pts
who will join
4 TWC: 1 TH+SS, 1 Meltabombs+SS, 1 MofW+SS, one plain, 330 pts

5 Scouts, Meltagun 85pts

10 GH, 2 Melta, PW 170

10 GH, Flamer, Plasma, PW 165

Is this more of less viable? I guess the Wolf Lord is too expensive and probably equipped all wronly. I completely lack Heavy Weapons and will have a hard time to shield the TWC.

Maybe reduce the GH to 5-man squads, add a Wolf Guard in each and put them into Razorbacks?

Hi there.
Looking at the list there are a few things.
If you drop the squads to 5 men, then you are going to have 2 squads that will suck in cc due to not having enough numbers, a WG is great for bolstering the cc capabilities of a GH squad but they need to be able to handle themselves too. If you drop to nine and add the WG as the dude holding the power weapon that gives you 4 points to spend on something else and you get an extra attack. You still need to come up with 18 points to drop a WG in the scouts though.

On the TWC drop MOTW, this power is only useful on a model that has a low attack profile in it's basic stat. With 4 attacks you'll be having less attacks half of the time and what you want out of TWC is a reliable number of rending attacks (they already have rending). Take the 15 points and get another plasma gun in the second gh squad.

Since this is 1000 points maybe if you drop the MOTW/ss and plain guys completely and take a unit of missile launcher long fangs. They will offer you some ranged support, something you kind of lack in. That way you can keep the 2 ten man squads and have a more rounded army.

You still have a rock hard unit of 2 twc and a wolf lord. They can mow through 10 squads with ease, take out cans and the like and probably could mess up a boyz mob. Definitely if you drop a few frags on them.

Now the wolflord. Saga of the bear is something I have been using for ages, I am not sold on it, I play tau alot and need it for those pesky railguns but that's about it. The wolf lord can total any psykers in cc and I had worse luck with his armour saves and LD checks. I switched it out for magesty and runic armour to cover those bases.
I get that you want to have 7 attacks on the charge but if you switch to a wolf claw and ss you will average 5% less wounds but survive far more since most squads have a sergent with powerfist or power weapon these days. And tbh most squads break after you kill half of them.
The only other things I would add to the wolf lord would be a wolf tail talisman to protect the squad from psyker trickery and a wolf tooth necklace for any IC's or MC's in your meta game. If there is no really cc enemy in the league drop the necklace.

It's not the size of the blade, it's how you use it.
