After 10+ games of 5th edition I have only just realized wrecked vehicles (result 5) become difficult & dangerous terrain rather than impassable. How do you guys place units on / in that terrain though? Do you balance them on top, or move the vehicle out the way temporarily? It seems a bit awkward to me...

Balance on top. I also have some felt cut-outs (that I mostly use for Exploded results) that match the size of my vehicles, so if something gets too wobbly then I just temporarily replace it and treat the model as being an inch or so higher for LOS purposes.

Just remember the "dangerous" part for climbing onto a wreck.
For exploded vehicles I cut the side hull off of an old Land Raider, Dread and a Rhino mounted them on a base the size of the footprint of each and made a mold of it. Poured a bunch of casts and now my LGS uses them. Beats using dice as they invariably get picked up.

Where in the BRB does it say wrecks are difficult terrain?

Thanks for the answers guys. So if I drive another vehicle into the wreck terrain, I have to balance it on top of the wrecked vehicle?

Yep. For some vehicles with lots of sticky-out-bits it is useful to make a box out of card stock that has the same dimensions as the hull of the vehicle. Then when the vehicle gets wrecked you can replace it with the box.
For added hilarity you can write the name of a sports team, music artist, or politician you don't like on the sides of the box. Then when people ask "what is that" you can reply "clearly, by it's name you can see that it is a box of wreck."

I just play wrecks as impassable, much less bulls**t. Nothing stupider than rhino stacking.

Do you play 30k? It'd be a lot cooler if you did. |
