This is my first ever space marine, or miniature in general . Did the sergeant a few months ago, now had time to finish up the marines. I'll take and post some detailed pictures when I have time. These were secondhand miniatures, so I had to strip the paint and then repaint them. (was seeing if I liked painting miniatures or not, and I do). Any tips are very welcome, thanks.

I must say they are very clean. I dont know if that is camo you have going on there or is it the wash? Looks like you may need to go back and do the grills on the helmets. And maybe do the white parts with a wash. Good first try on Marines though.

Nice job for your first squad. I am also a little curious as to the black lines and things in the green. It doesn't look bad or anything, just want to know what exactly you're going for with it.

Decals would be pretty nice, just to liven it up a bit too

A small thing I think would really help these minis is a different rim color on the base.

Otherwise, they look like a great start!

It's spelled "cavalry." NOT "calvary."

in a fire... AAAAAAAHHH!!$*five@!!

Great color selection, keeping the metallics subtle. I like the mottled green, it looks great.
Don't sweat the rim color, but do paint the grills... the face pipes you have painted look great and it'll make them stand out even more.
Darn fine work, and doubly so for try #1!

Nicely done, although some light highlights will really finish these guys off! Don't be afraid to throw on another coat of wash if you think you overdid it. Practice on a different mini first. After a few times youll get the hang of it

Really nicely done, especially for a first time effort! You've kept things clean. Start to read up on techniques such as basic shading, highlighting and dry-brushing. Considering you've done well enough to paint a basic scheme so tidily, I think you'll find progression to the next 'level' pretty simple! Practice, practice and practice.

Very nice. Good job with the metallic look. I agree with the other posters, just a little more detailing, and great looking squad!

So got decals, went for my own SM chapter, didnt like any of the current ones. Silent Thorns, the idea for these guys was that they fight in jungles, or dead acidic terrain/planets, so I tried to give their armor a dirty acidic feel, not too damaged but not perfect paintjob after so much rough fighting. (I had this in my head before I started paining them.) Painted the grills boltgun metal and then washed it with gryphonne sepia (just to see what would happen) it turned goldish rust color , looks interesting but when its daytime I can get better light set-up, and Ill post some close up images of individuals. Oh and the bases are now dark green, and they do stand out more. I'll add highlights after I practice more, have a champion and 2 more sergeant SMs that I can mess with. Not a fan of SM so these guys are all for practice. I have some Dark Eldar and a Warhammer Fantasy starter box I'll be working with soon. here is the link if you want to follow it: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/438378.page#4064253

Thank you for your support and tips.
P.S. Should I move this thread to P&M blogs? since I'm adding changes now.

I like your idea for a chapter and they look really good. Most first attempts iv seen in person look really hurt and in need of work but yours looks very well done.
Loving the custom decal.

For a beginer these looks ace! Great job! They're good solid TT quality, and something you should be proud of. I like that you're going for freehanding right out the door, took me a long time to work my way up to that!

You'll pick up more and more techniques as you paint more, and talk more to old timers. I still do every now and then after years and years in the hobby. But you are up to a flying start, keep it up!
