When outfitting a Deffdread I want to be sure I do it correctly. The war gear comes with 2 close combat weapons and you MUST take 2 additional weapons, so would that concede that the Deffdred gets 4 weapons? The reason I ask is the wording in the codex is "must", not "only one" or "any" etc. The walker rules in for a weapon damaged result state that any weapon on that entire arm is all one weapon for the purpose of that effect, but I assume that is in reference to dreadnaughts? I don't have the space marine codex on hand to check against the dread's rules and if that would even shed light on the deffdread.

Edit:
I also looked into the errata and faq, plus a search through the forums, and all I can find are number attacks stuff.

Yes, the Dread has 4 weapons, and 4 arms for that matter.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Don't use the Space Marine.codex to check the rules for an Ork deft dread, use the Orks...

And if you are talking about a modelling issue with having two weapons on the arm, its not a big deal. Just represent all the weapons you are claiming on the dread however you can, mounted to the body, arm, whichever.

I wasn't using the SM codex, merely citing the rulebook's example for walker weapon destroyed results that refers to a dreadnought close combat weapon. Thus I was unsure if their codex had any special language in reference to this.

I agree that since my codex says I have 2 weapons and "must" take two more, that one would infer I take 4 total weapons. But given the nugget of information that dreadnought close combat weapons can have more than one weapon, what is stopping me from taking 4 arms all with big shootas attached? Never mind logistics, just as an example. So I was curious if dreadnoughts were special when it came to this.

Do or do not, there is no try.

SM Dreadnoughts specifically state that the storm bolter (or heavy flamer if you upgrade) is "built-in" to their dreadnought close combat weapon.

It's pretty cut and dry, really. The dreadnought starts off with two weapons (being two DCCW), and can purchase an additional two.

So Dreadnoughts have four separate weapons, individually unaffected by the destruction of another weapon. The Space Marine codex dreadnought is an exception to this, and it states as much.
