What's up with Necrons having so many units in the codex that don't have models? Like the Night/Doom Scythe, Canoptek Wraith, Triarch Stalkers, Tomb Blades...... Kinda limits the units you can chose from unless you know how to make decent conversions.

It happens when a codex gets released. They can only release so many kits at any given time so they pace it out. It also gives Necron players some things to collect down the road, and more profits in the future. When a Nightscythe kit comes out, people who weren't planning on buying it will buy it because it looks cool, non-Necron players might start armies because of it, and it will be a guaranteed revenue boost from a number of Necron players.

Also, if you want to talk neglected models, imagine you're a Tyranid player and the lynchpin of your entire codex doesn't come out until two years after the book itself.

HAHA about that Tyranid thing....I actually did used to play Tyranids. My favorite unit was the Tervigon. Funny thing is I traded my models for Necron stuff just before the Tervigon model came out. Can't complain though as I like Necrons better. But I guess it makes sense about the revenue thing. Pacing the models over time to generate more profit.

Some models never get made

Orks for example have been out for about 4 years, i think, in the current codex.

There are no models for Wazdakka Gutsmek, Old Zogwort (yeah, you can use a regular Wierdboy, but it's not the same..), Warbuggy with Rokkits (easy to convert, but still..) , Flash Gitz. (ok, they got a crappy model with a shotgun )

Not really a problem if you like converting and have a bunch of spare bitz, but they aren't available as kits

Eldar have no Warlock/Farseer on Jetbike (and they are a a commonly used unit where i play) despite the codex having been out for ages.

SW only just got their TWC, and Nid FINALLY got their Tervigon and Tyrannofex, but are still missing the harpy, Doom and so on.

It happens. it's annoying, but unfortunately common.

The alternative is: you only get unit entries for models they can produce at the time they make the codex.

Meaning for approx 5 years you wont get any new units. None. Not until your codex gets redone. You dont have any oppurtunity at ALL to play with them, regardless of your skill

I FAR prefer choice but requires skill to no choice.

Or, and here's an idea, they could get the models ready for the new units ahead of the release date of the codex There's a 4-5 year rotation on codexes, with some waiting far far longer. It's not like they don't know they'll need to do it again.

They can produce every unit in the dex before it drops. They don't.

If i was cynical (and i am) i would suspect that it would force players to buy GW kits to kitbash into these missing units (Tervigon from carnifex for example) not knowing it's actual size or final look (guessing from the artwork) and then have to ditch them and start over if they want official models (which some venues insist on)

That said i also FAR prefer choice requiring a modicum of skill to no choice at all, but i feel we shouldn't have the issue in the first place.
