Here is a quick question, have there even been non human followers of chaos? I know the chaos gods have some link/attachment to humans but it seems odd to me such powerful abstract beings haven't attracted the attention and worship of other races/species.

Well, humans were the first ones to fall under the thrall of Chaos.
However, the Eldar and Dark Eldar have direct links to the Chaos Gods, considering that the Dark Eldar revel in excess and are known to worship Slaanesh. (At least, that's what I read somewhere... >_> )

I think the latest version of the fluff is that dark eldar, like their craftworld brethren, live in constant, mindnumbing, soul-sucking dread of slaanesh. Because their souls are so tasty.

Khorne Tzeentch and Nurgle are exclusively human deities in the fluff I recall. Slaanesh is basically an eldar god that "goes both ways," as it were, and courts worship from humans as well. If you're thinking about making khornate orks or something like that, don't do it. Every race in 40k has their own gods, and they are all extremely jealous.

In earlier (more interesting) iterations of the fluff, the Chaos Gods were primordial, universal powers, worshipped under a million different names by a million cultures. The present fluff, however, has turned them into evil gods of mankind who live in an off-brand Mordor.

Thanks GW.

Slaanesh is the youngest god. But the Eldar gave birth to shim. Therefore the 'human' gods are a fair bit older than humanity.
Plus the Gods of slaughter, decay and change are surely timeless.

I think that in the older fluff there were a few appearances of Eldar who worshipped Slaanesh, and the fact that the Cabal, a group of aliens dedicated to eradicating Chaos exists/ed would indicate that the gods are far older than humanity since the Cabal decided not to eradicate humanity when it first evolved.

Arguing with some people is like playing chess with a pigeon. You can play the best chess in the world, but at the end of the day the pigeon will still knock all the pieces off the board and then gak all over it.

I do remember reading somewhere that a ork warband accidently worshiped Nurgle because they came accross one of his statues and thought that it was a statue of Gork and/or Mork. So they got all nurgle-ized.

No I think beside from Eldar and their dark kind, there are no non humans who follow the dark gods, it would seem that they prefer human playthings.

Makes sense. Humans are pretty easy to tempt.

Not sure about the table-top, but in the Black Library fluff, there are entire Xeno species who have fallen to the Ruinous Powers. I remember most directly the Yu'uvath from the Eisenhorn novels.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

Yeah, there are some Chaos Xenos that have been mentioned, like in Fulgrim or Eisenhorn.

I have read of orks that have fallen under the sway of khorne and nurgle (war and greeny rottingness. Ofcourse these orks are shuned by other orks). Basically you can get away with orks worshipping those two gods. Other races aremore resiliant through to strict traing/non corruptable bios.

By "other races" you mean the Tau, right? Otherwise, there's not many Chaos-immune xenos.

Which in itself is also pretty ironic.

The Greater Good? PAH!

They just do whatever their precious little Ethereal's tell them to do.
If that's not control, what is?

It's interesting though, isn't it? The fact the Tau believe to strongly in the Greater Good that they would die for the idea under command of an Ethereal. I wonder... If a Chaos God could ever tempt an Ethereal, an entire Sept could fall under their control. That'd be something to see!

In the BL novels i'm pretty sure you can find a couple alien people's worshipping chaos.

ie Iron Warriors books...

And I think there was some insecty alien race that lived underground but were converted to khorne or something

Chaos tau wouldn't go completely evil. They don't have the stomach for it. They would merely fight for the lesser good.
Their souls just aren't tasty at all.

A common theme for chaos worshipping xenos seems to be extermination at the hands of the Imperium.

Yet none of those races existed until the hh series.

Maybe didn't exist as in were not mentioned before that series of books, but that doesn't mean that any of those species, in the year 30K, had not been around for hundreds of thousands, or millions, of years.

They seem to be there to represent evil so no matter which legion is also in the story they look much much nicer.

In one word, yes.

To further elaborate, yes, but it's definitely been downplayed in the recent years to the point where it's just primarily Humans. (even though I do agree with you that it seems odd that there isn't more emphasis on other races!)

When Chaos was first introduced in 40k, practically every existing race (humans, Orks, Ogryns, even Tyranids!) could become champions of Chaos.

Khorne seems to be the most popular god for races to turn to, however. I know that Ork Stormboyz often turned to Khorne.

I couldn't tell you if there are any races besides Humans (and some of the obscure aliens like the ones mentioned in the HH series) that still fall to Chaos.
