So my friends and I have been playing Deathwatch for the past few months, and we've been getting pretty attached to our characters' exploits. So as a result I'm building tabletop versions of our 7-man Kill Team, and have written a special ruleset for them (see attachment). I'm still waiting for most of the bitz to come in before I can build them, but I'll show some WIP shots here. Any suggestions for how to improve their paint jobs or the ruleset are appreciated.

The first member I've worked on so far is our Storm Wardens Librarian, Morgan. I was scouting for good models to portray him, and the Dark Angels Librarian Ezekiel fit the bill perfectly - Morgan's signature feature is his sacris claymore, and Ezekiel's force sword has been made to look the part while emanating potent psychic energy. He's still a WIP though. He has a Psyber-Raven named Groark that I'm still waiting to come in the mail.

The second member I've worked on is the team Apothecary, Marshall. He's the only team member to take on the Deathwatch heraldry, discarding his Ultramarine colours. Aside from some touching up, he's actually pretty much finished at this point. I'll probably drill out his gun barrel.

Update! A package arrived in the mail today with enough parts to get started on the last 5 members of the Kill Team. Here they are thus far on my busy workbench:

First we have our heavy weapons expert, Dominus Cain, a Blood Hawk (a Blood Angels successor chapter). I'm waiting on his heavy bolter, the aptly-named "Reaper", still though.

Tiberius Marius Cinna Setimanus is next, an Imperial Fist tactical marine. He typically acts as overwatch and provides our Kill Team with unparalleled tactical know-how.

This headless body is going to be our White Scars Techmarine, Lupinus Khen. He's interesting from a table-top standpoint in that he's armed with a heavy flamer rather than the usual assortment of weapons a Techmarine would have. Aside from the head, he also needs a servo-arm/harness, which I have yet to acquire...

Atlas, our raging Blood Angel Tac Marine. Out of this lot, he and Tiberius are the only 2 that are basically "done" and ready for painting.

...and here we have my Space Wolf character, Andilus. Or the start of him at least. Still waiting on his head, body, jump pack, etc...

I'll get around to painting this batch sometime this week hopefully, but I've got assignments I'm going to be working on so it may be a few weeks before I'm finished.

I got a little progress done inadvertently. I planned on doing Tiberius next, but I ended up undercoating Atlas and then basecoated him afterwards on a whim. As a result, I went and finished him today. He turned out pretty well, all I need to do now is fix up a couple messy highlights and maybe drill out the gun barrel.

I also got a couple orders in today. First of all, Morgan's Psyber-Raven, Groark, came in - I'll paint him up and then mount him on Morgan's shoulder.

My character, Andilus, has also gotten a lot of bitz in today. Now I'm just waiting on his head (should be in tomorrow or Friday)!

Finally, Lupinus is shaping up very nicely! I'm bidding on a servo-arm on ebay and I'm really hoping that I can win it so I can complete him - he's going to look AWESOME.

I'd maybe resize the images, buddy.

I guarantee you that I'm not really as smart as the test says:

You do realise marines in the Deathwatch paint their armour black with the left arm silver right?

Ya I'm thinking so as well. My camera takes pictures at a really big size, but the default size on Dakka is really small. I might start resizing them before I upload.

Chrysis wrote:You do realise marines in the Deathwatch paint their armour black with the left arm silver right?

Ya, in our campaign everyone but Marshall decided to keep their chapter colours though.

My last package arrived this morning, so the last thing I'll need to finish building the Kill Team is a servo-arm. I've got 22 hours left on the one I'm bidding on on ebay, so hopefully I don't get sniped first... Anyway, I've done a little work in the last couple days. First, I finished Morgan and Marshall:

A closer look at Groark:

I also painted up Tiberius last night. I've never painted a yellow model before, so it was quite the interesting challenge. He turned out fairly well though I'd say. I need to add a few more accessory bitz to him before I'll declare him "done" though (same with Atlas).

Finally, I added bitz to the other models in the army. First, Lupinus:

Andilus:

And Cain:

Yes, in our Deathwatch RPG he has a chainsaw bayonet attached to his heavy bolter.

Would be a neat thread to look at if the pictures weren't so huge. Take a little time to resize, please.

If you uploaded your images with dakka they should automatically be resized to a decent size, would probably help. That way when clicked they also have the zoom function if its desired to get a really in depth look. At the moment its kind of hard to see whats going on

Ya, Dakka usually resizes them to 600 pixels, max. I usually get rid of the size restrictions and it should take a couple moments to auto-resize them for your browser. However, I'll manually resize them all and repost them in the next few minutes.

*EDIT*

Ok, the images have all been resized, the thread should load much quicker now.

Been doing some painting in between writing essays this weekend...

First, I finished Atlas. Basically all I did was add an ammo pouch and spray him with gloss + matte sealer.

Next is Tiberius. His character is supposed to be very pious, so I made sure to adorn him with purity seals and an Aquila. I'm also glad that the sealers made the yellow seem flatter, it previously had a rough texture from the paint I'd used, but the gloss varnish covered that up. I like how he turned out, but I don't envy anyone who has to paint up an army of Imperial Fists (or even Angry Marines, but at least that would be fun/hilarious )

Now onto the new stuff:

Cain has to be one of the best models I've ever painted. I'm really happy with how he turned out, especially the scrawl on the purity seals and scrolls. I especially like that you can read "Reaper" on the scroll attached to the eponymous gun. All-in-all, Cain is probably the biggest badass in our Deathwatch RPG, and his tabletop model reflects that perfectly.

I'm not quite as impressed with the way that my character, Andilus, turned out... but then again, maybe I'm just being harsh because it's my character. In any case, he's certainly not bad. Also, while he's a Space Wolf, he's painted to my Great Company's colours (which gets really confusing because he's called Andilus, and so is my Wolf Lord - originally he was going to be a younger version of my Wolf Lord, but I changed that later on, so now it's just confusing!).

1 more Marine to go and then I'll be done (assuming I don't make our familiars or any new acquisitions anytime soon ). I won that servo-arm on ebay, so that will hopefully be arriving late this week or early next week. Fingers crossed!

Update! Lupinus' servo-arm came in the mail the other day. I've also been getting bored so I painted up what I had of him, so he's mostly-done already. I also green-stuffed his heavy flamer to the backpack to show where he's getting his prometheum supply from. Overall he's looking very nice, although painting white armour was a lot harder than I expected. I'm kind of dissatisfied with the results (except for the face ), but I'm going to keep trying to touch it up.

Have to say I find Cain rather amusing I have a Space Marine chapter which I originally claimed to be BA successors called the Blood Hawks eventually I changed them to be Raven Guard Successors. My scheme was far plainer Black with Gun metal details. Yours look good to and the Chainsword Heavy Bolter is an impressively crazed weapon.

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

haha, he originally called them the Blood Knights, and then realized that there was already a successor called the Knights of Blood. When he found out he changed it to the Blood Hawks, but that is a funny coincidence.

This really makes me want to model up my Deathwatch group.

We have a Raven Guard tac marine with a power sword and stalker bolter, a Salamanders Techmarine with a multimelta (me), a Dark Angels Apothecary with a Power Sword, an Iron Hands Devastator with pretty much every heavy weapon ever, an Imperial Fists Librarian and our resident "That Guy", a White Scars Assault Marine with a Power Lance and Missile Launcher.

And we'd all be fun to model and paint.

Lupinus is now finished!

And here they all are lined up:

This has been a fun (but expensive) project, but in the time it took me from start-to-finish the Kill Team has expanded again. We've now got a Battle Sister named Seira with us, and a couple followers - a Fenrisian Wolf named Mags and a Gun Servitor named Xerxes - which I may have to model up sometime soon. Thanks for reading!
