Hi there,
I'm organizing a Masterclass with Mathieu Fontaine for the Philadelphia, PA area. The class would be over 2 days on May 12 and May 13 and will be generously hosted at Red Cap Corner.
For those who don't know Mathieu's work, here's a link to his website: http://www.akaranseth.com/blog
For the skeptical, here's a list of his awards: http://www.akaranseth.com/category/blog/bio
The class will cover the basic theories of miniature painting. it's open to all level of painters.
We have 15 spots available currently, and the class fee will include the miniature, a brush, material for wet palette, primer), the only thing you need to bring are your paints, a stand light and yourself...
i do not have a final cost yet for the event but it should be around 120$ per person for both days (any extra money will be automatically transformed into coffee and food for the week end )
For further info, you can contact me through PM or by email at 2lefthandz @ gmail.com
Thanks alot
Cheers
J

120 dollars? That price seems SUPER steep. Has anyone actually signed up?
No offense to Mathieu. His work is excellent, but for that price you can buy any of the CMON instructional videos, plus all those materials. You should even have enough left over for a few minis as well.
Looking at the Adepticon schedule and their painting classes (some of which are taught by Mathieu) I can get the same instructions for about half that cost.

120 dollars for two days with a painter like Mat Fontaine is a
good price. These are two full days, not single hour sessions. Automatically Appended Next Post: To give you an idea, this is what it looks like in Chicago:
Day 1: 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM
Day 2: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Automatically Appended Next Post: 7:30PM - 12:00AM (Thursday) 0 Moving Forward: First Steps to Advanced Painting
Moving Forward: First Steps to Advanced Painting
Instructor: Mathieu Fontaine This 4-hour class covers every aspect of miniature painting from start to finish with a one-on-one approach. Get familiar with blending your colors; discover the various techniques to make a face stand out; learn how the pros do it in a time...
$27.00
At Adepticon you're paying for a badge to sign up for events and
then you're paying for 4 hrs for 27 USD. Multiply that x 5 and
you're at 135. There you go.

Following up on yesterdays post. I talked to a buddy of mine about the price of this. He is also a commission painter.
He told me one of his friends attended this class in Boston and he learned a ton of new stuff. The value is definitely there.
Now I am considering signing up.

120$ for 20 hours with a painter of Mathieu's standing is fair price.
as of today, i have 8 spots left, i give another 2 weeks before sending confirmation and payment requests
Philly Class will be also on the same schedule:
SAT: 9.AM to 9 PM
SUN: 9AM to 5 PM
i had the chance to attend classes with Jeremy Bonamant and Alan Carasco in the past and it was worth every penny...

Trust me, I'm done questioning the price. After a little research it sounds perfectly reasonable.

I went to the February MasterClass 1 in Vancouver BC. It is absolutely worth every single penny. I even spent an extra $100 to stay in a hotel for the night. $120 for approx 20 hours of instruction, it's a bargain at that price....

Hi all,
here's the official message from Mathieu:
http://www.akaranseth.com/blog/status-of-the-masterclasses.htm
I recently found out that the Masterclasses were not done in accordance with United States laws regarding immigration. To make a long story short, in order to teach in the United States, I would need a visa. At the moment I am hard at work, along with other persons involved in this situation, exploring the various solutions offered to us. Unfortunately nothing is simple and most solutions are accompanied by high fees.
At the moment, I am afraid that I have to cancel every Masterclasses that were initially planned in Chicago, Philadelphia and New Jersey. Even if I decide to apply for a proper visa, I will not be receiving it in time for any of these events. You can also understand that I will not accept any other proposals for Masterclasses in the United States until the resolution of the situation, if I decide to obtain a visa. All requests for Masterclasses, to happen outside of the United States, are obviously more than welcome.
This also covers classes usually offered during conventions such as GENCON or Adepticon. We are trying everything we can at the moment to make sure I will be at Adepticon. I have every intention of being present at Adepticon 2012 at this point. I am even considering giving my entire compensation as a donation to charity to make sure these classes will take place. I will let you know the details as soon as we have more, but if you did sign up for one of my classes, do not panic. Every request to teach in future conventions in the United States will not be accepted until the resolution of my visa status, if I decide to apply for one.
I want to take the time to personally apologize to anyone who had registered for the Masterclasses mentioned above, but more specifically to the students in Sacramento who were expecting me last weekend. It was never my intention to go against the law. It was my responsibility to be properly informed, which I did not. I am truly sorry for the inconveniences created by this situation.
I will update you with the latest info as soon as we have more developments.
Keep painting!

Thanks jul for the update. I wish Mathieu all the best with resolving visas etc.
Now I'm considering a vacation up in Canada... Who wants to arrange a Masterclass in Montreal or Niagara? Even Quebec, I'd be up for that.
