I had a great game of Star Trek Tactics yesterday. It was extremely mobile with five of the six ships on the table having Hypersonic Speed or Running Shot.

Mike's fleet:
Regency 1
Reliant (Khan)
Equinox

My Klingon Birds of Prey fleet:
Bounty
Rotarran
Ch'Tang

Battlefield: Kobayashi Maru minefield map

Here's the video batrep:

Great game!

Way to waste my time. Video implies images. Text should be left to posts.

There are tons of images in between the text. Without any text, how would you know what was going on in the images? Did you actually watch or just shut it off before the images began?

Looks like a good game, but I must confess to pausing the video and skipping ahead at will. I'd rather just see spoiler tags and text personally. Congrats on the victory!

You're really making me want to pick up a few packs, damn you

LOL! The first person can't stand text and you skip ahead just to read the text. Sometimes, there's no pleasing anybody!

This batrep highlights my complaint about this game perfectly. It is a starship combat game using rules (and abilities/powers) made for super heroes. It doesnt really work well, from a geek standpoint. Sure the game plays well enough, and is probably fun enough in its won right, but the basic fact remains: .A Neghvar class battleship would easily handle 3 scout (B'rel class) Bird of Prey...even the larger cruiser (K'vort class) variant would have trouble in the same scenario.

Star Trek is never just a straight boring shoot-out matching gun-for-gun. Watch this clip from the DS9 episode "Shattered Mirror" as the Defiant almost single-handedly takes out three Klingon Birds of Prey and a Negh'var class battleship:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-P6L5JGf24

Heroclix works better than you think if consider these clips as well:

Watch this first clip:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fg58hVEY5Og

General Chang: "Ha! Ha! I've got Stealth and can fire!"

Kirk: "I have the Trick Shot/Expert Sniper feat to defeat your Stealth!"

Chang: "...to be...or not to be..."

Watch the second clip:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dzIEoHlcXQs

Duros sisters: "Ha! Ha! I Outwit your Invulnerability!"

Riker: "Ha! I Outwit your Invulnerability and have Ranged Combat Expert!"

Commander Data: "Yes!"

Watch the third clip:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ze3dRODgAiA

Kruge: "I'll use the Ambush feat!"

Kirk: "I'll use my De-Feated feat to counter!"

Kruge: "Ha! I roll critical anyway!"

Watch the fourth clip:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Rbek...eature=related

Khan: "I Outwit your Invulnerability and roll critical. Surrender!"

Kirk: "Kkkkkhhhhaaannnnnnn!!!!!! I Outwit your Invulnerability and I now have Stealth."

Feels like Star Trek to me...

This is true. I notice shields have the same deal, sometimes they absorb ungodly amounts of damage, other times they go down like a house of cards in a wind storm.

Id really, really love a true wargame with TNG era ships. Something more realistic than clix but not as complex as Star Fleet Battles.

Try Star Fleet Captains. It uses the same starship models (though unpainted), uses a more universe-realistic clix system (not the HeroClix system), though it takes a few hours to play.

I believe the next version of A Call to Arms is going to be Starfleet Battles themed. That game has pretty good buzz.

I just adore the look of the clix models, but my local comics store is plum out.

I will admit to skipping ahead several times to look for images, but I didn't see any! If I had I would have gone back to the beginning to watch. So now my foot's in my mouth. Sorry for the undeserved criticism.

Problem is ACTA uses original TV series era ships.I love the Clix since they are TNG era, still fussing a bit over the lack of scale. Would have been nice if they at least made a bit of an attempt.

Hey dude, that was pretty awesome Great BR.

Though I share the same complaint Mad4Minis had. Though I've never played the game before, and this is the first time I've seen it played, it was clear that you should have lost at first contact. Your ships were vastly inferior.

The game mechanics made the BoP equal to ships that they clearly aren't equal to.

But the BR was awesome (IMO) and I enjoyed it

Part of that is that the game uses "character" ships. Famous ships with famous captains, giving them abilities outside of a normal vessel of the class.

While I do love that someone finally made TNG era ships, I still hunger for scale and true representation of the ships.

Even with abilities outside of a normal vessel, a BoP crewed by the most legendary officers in Trek history would be prey to a Negh'var with nothing but tribbles for a crew. The Tribbles would at some point accidentally press the button that would decimate the BoP, and the BoP, regardless of who is on board, wouldn't have the power to touch the Negh'var even while waiting for the tribbles to accidentally blow it up.

I'm with you on the second bit. I'd love to see a (simple) game with true representation of the ships.

Even 3 of the larger cruiser class BoP would have trouble with the Neghvar. Considering the Clix all represent B'rel class scouts, yes theres almost no chance.
