How many troops should I have at 1500 points, or any point level for that matter?

Well, it depends on the army you play. If you play Marines, two full Tacticals would suffice. You can combat squad them if necessary. The same goes for mech Eldar.

If you have Guard, two full platoons is more than enough for 1500. I usually run 3 to 4 vet squads in the 1500-2000 range if not platoons. You gotta be prepared for capturing objectives and 2 troops just isn't enough sometimes (unless of course you can combat squad em like SM).

It really depends on your army. My 1500 list runs 5 (Tervigon, Tervigon, Gaunts, Gaunts, Genestealers), but Tyranids are more troops-friendly than a lot of other races.

There is a post a few lines down askign the same thing. The general consensus seems to be 1 Troops choice per 500 points.....but thsi can change accoding to your army/play style etc etc.

2 if you can combat squad, 3 otherwise (unless its ___wing, orks, or scoring bikes)

I would say 4 as a minimum. If your army has good troops (SW, GK, etc) then think about taking more.
