Subject: Stylish Space Marine Chapters ?

I really like the unusual Space Marine Chapters. Not the founding Legions or conventional chapters but the more creative and often superb chapters that have been created. I think it's the combination of colour scheme, theme, style and character of some of these forces thats makes me really like them. 1. The Storm Wardens The brilliant Charity army from http://stormwardens.blogspot.co.uk/ A very simple striking colour scheme, well carried out and gives a martial feel to these marines. 2. The Storm Eagles by GrimTeef http://www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/GrimTeef's_Storm_Eagles_Chapter Very similiar to the Storm Wardens above but carried out with such style that they deserve a mention and it's Dakka's own GrimTeef. It's the attention to detail, the librarians pose, the fact that he has carried this through his entire force that makes this one of the most spectacular DIY's I have seen. 3. The Golden Scythes Really beautiful, the Scythes IIRC are now no more. But the simple conversions give a less is more element to this piece. The yellow and black is balance such that you never think "Imperial Fists", it could have been OTT but the painter went for a much simpler effect and it works well. 4. Jade Tigers Simple and beautifully done. The understated elegance of these models really shows the skill of the painter. http://1000tinybrushes.blogspot.co.uk/2011/05/jade-tigers-have-new-home.html 5. Dakka's own Kaaihn Simply stunning. It's the Black with the high contrast of Yellow/Orange/Red and the fact it is carried throughout the entire force. One of the best I have ever seen. Please post up your own (or ones you have found), but you must avoid the conventional/established chapters and look for the exceptional ones that are hidden out there and most important discuss why you love it. Stuck this in discussions because it's nice for people to post and say why they like it? Looking forward to what we dig up.

Those scythes are pretty awesome.
I'm getting to the point where I'm pretty jaded about anything in power armor.
Unless something drastic is added (Contemptor style dread, etc), it's just not exciting.

Seems most Chapters with Storm in the title end up being absolutely awesome...
Like the army at the back of Space Marines Collectors Guide 2nd Edition called "Emperor's storm".
For some reason I can't find an image on Google, but they are amazing. >.> Automatically Appended Next Post: Emerett wrote:Those scythes are pretty awesome.

These are stunning. Creativity is key with Space Marines, seeing as they are so commonly used.

Frodo: I can’t do this, Sam.
Sam: I know. It’s all wrong. By rights we shouldn’t even be here. But we are. It’s like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger, they were. And sometimes you didn’t want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn’t. They kept going. Because they were holding on to something.
Frodo: What are we holding onto, Sam?
Sam: That there’s some good in this world, Mr. Frodo… and it’s worth fighting for. |

Always liked Craig Gallant's Japanese-themed Divine Wind chapter. I wish I could find some photos of his terminators; he converted them to have Samurai-style helmets with elaborate masks from the first-generation Chaos Raptor models. Here's the squad he entered in Golden Daemon, anyway:

As great as this is, it belongs in 40k discussion, not DD.

Fair enough.
Loving the Bee's/ Wasps/ Hornets. That is completely bonkers but original, makes me wonder if the Chapter Master is called "Queen". I never noticed the "Storm" thing but yeah it does seem to be a good source of inspiration and produces a lot of good chapters.
I remember a really good Samurai Army that was on the second to last page of a GW book. It had amazing back banners on all the troops and the Chapter master was a take on the really old Calgar model (sitting on a throne) only he had his feet on the back of one of his Warriors. Some lovely stuff on here.
