Hello, my previous CSM list failed miserably...only 4 models made it out alive. (Terminators disintegrated by 2 rapid-fire plasma guns...)
I was wondering what people thought about the sample list in the CSM codex. I'm working on a 1500 point game:
First though:
Drop the Chaos Spawn.
Change the Sorceror into Fabius Bile.
Change the Chaos Lord into Kharn.
Powerfist the berzerker champion.
Turn the Terminators into havocs.
Defiler?
Possessed?
Anything else?

What was the original list?
Just from what I see on your self-suggestions
1. Yes, always drop the chaos spawn
2. Fabulous Bile is debatable
3. Kharn can kill your own guys, and you definitely need a transport to get him into melee fast and safely
4. Powerfist is an excellent idea
5. Havocs.....debatable...i'd like to see the list first
6. List
7. Possessed by consensus aren't as good as 'zerkers
8. Plague Marines are excellent for sitting on and holding objectives, and are the ultimate tarpit against anything that doesn't have power weapons.

I would indeed drop the spawn, and take Kharn with the Berzerkers.
I'd also drop the possessed, they seem kinda a footnote to the berzerkers
Defiler isn't a bad choice in this case if you ask me.
I'd look at another Rhino for you CSM as well, maybe more wargear for the chosen.
What are you hoping to do with Mr. Fabulous, instead of the Sorc?
As far as the terminators go, i'd keep them, next time you field them, keep them away from things that would light them up like plasma guns.

However, it would also make you less equipped to deal with mechanized armies.
You could probably get by without the sorc, all being said though

That's the best advice I can give you without a chaos codex of my own, the majority of my experience is playing against chaos.

It turns out I'm allowed to use dreadclaws for the friendly games that I play, so I will take berzerkers in a dreadclaw, drop them behind enemy firelines, use a personal icon on them to summon terminators, and drive a land raider with 2X5 plague marines.
I am planning on a similar first list. It goes like that :
1 chaos lord w/ MoK / Daemon weapon / TDA 3 terminators w/ 2 combi 1 HF / 1 CF 2 LC
These band together and drop behing enemy lines.
1 Dread (PC, HF).
6 1k sons + Sorc w/Doombolt (the cheap one)
Rhino w/ Havoc ML
2x 7 PM w/2 melta Champ w/PF Rhino w/Combi
2x Obli
2x Obli
Bear in mind I face loads of MEQ armies.
Considering IGuy list, I'd say :
Drop the PF in the terminator squad, you have the CF to help with tarpits. Upgrade the CF termi to a champ if you feel like it.
I am not a fan of the plasma pistol zerker. If you plan on having Karn with them, drop the pistol, and change the fist for a PW - you have Kharn to open cans (and your own guys) anyway.
Drop chosens / havocs - take oblis.

Putting PM in a LR seems a real waste. It's an assault vehicule, so I'd advise to have assaulting troops in there (zerkers for instance).
And try to get obliterators. Please. Cheesy as hell but for a reason.
I have heard a lot of debate over LRs. The best idea seems to be to use it as an AV14 wall of firepower and split the enemies' fire between the dreadclaw assault and the land raider.
