So I was thinking about starting an escalation tournament at my FLGS, with the main thrust being to start a new army.

I've been thinking about going either Eldar or Tau - Eldar because I like the fluff (and LOVE the models), and Tau because I like the idea of battlesuits and OMG RAILGUNZ GUISE.

Which should I do, though? Eldar, or Tau?

I have heard of a book for both armies are coming soon and are going to have their time soon. I played against tau and never really liked the suits I just dont like that for a unit. Then again I dont like Eldar either it just never got to me. If I had to choose I would go Tau because I like the greater good idea that they throw outthere. But this is your list so yours to choose.

Even in 5ed, Tau are still pretty decent, if played well. Kind of the same idea as I have for Eldar - crappy troop choices, amazing elite/fast/heavies.

You can even make the argument that since Tau are still playing by 4ed rules, their railgun submunitions on the hammerhead never scatter (since in 4ed the only weapons that scattered were ordnance, and submunitions are just "large blast").
